Hi!
Noone conflicted with it in the sequential topic, so here it goes.

I need a dogbox tranny, and I found a factory wich produces such things.
http://dogbox.hu/gearkits.htm
The only trouble is, that they wont create one piece for me.

So. If there any other one, who need a fast and strong gearbox, please contact me.

That is a dogbox gearkit, wich includes all the gears, input and outputshafts, gears, hubs, forks and final drive. It fits in the original gearbox housing.
Any gear ratio is awailable.

The priceis about 2800-3000 euros, wich to me seems to be fair, according to that the factory have a huge experience on creating Impresa-s, Evo-s, Single-maker-cupcars gearboxes all around Europe.

Nice!
What i found, can do all the same, similar technology (precise milling, wheting, fine surface finishes... accurate design, fits into original housing).

There is only a slight difference in the price between em...

If you hunt about you can get these for around The £2k mark. A few things you should consider first.

What is the advantages and disadvantages of dog and synchro gears?

Dog Gears
Advantages-

Engage at any rpm

Allows for wider gear design

Will flat shift

Disadvantages-

Nasty and grauchy on the road

Requires regular inspection and maintanance

Recommended only for race use

Special care required under normal street use.

Synchro Gears-
Advantages-

Inspection and maintanance not required

Smooth operation on the road

No special driving style required

Disadvantages-

Will not shift at any rpm

Synchros can break when abused and shifted aggressively

Gear width cannot be altered

Hm.. that would be cheaper... but around me i can not find one (there was no dogbox 4 starlets untill some day...)

And the othe thing is, that the 2k is a huge amount of money aswell... so if i pay that much, i d prefer some wery high quality stuffs, couse i dont wana sleep on the road.... I mean, that i d buy it from someone with a good reputation.

Yeah exactly that, Quaife sets are around £3500.00 so I think our sets are priced pretty well and on par with Quaife quality considering we have to be VAT Registered. We are also going to do a Syncro set will update the thread later today.

If you require more info Horwath let us know more than happy to offer impartial advice.

Thanks,

Really dont see the need for a dog box, firstly I assume most run turbo cars? turbos dont need big revs therefore dont need that abilty to shift at high revs.....secondly apart from a dicky fifth the standard box will handle 300hp without complaint with good oil.....thirdlt there is already various ratios available from the starlets, corollas, avensis, carina, levin etc etc etc.....why bother with all that exspense?

the other thing with straight cut gears which are in dog boxes, is they produce more torque than helical gears, i don't know the whole physics of it all, but i think the noise of the straight cut gears would be abit much for general driving around the road.

One thing is the noise. Ear plugs are invented for a long time, car hifi is for boring cars...
But. I am using the car for slalom racing, wher i need to rev it sometimes, and shift at a wide range... somtimes at max rpm sometimes sift to the point, where the next gear ll work...
At slalom the power is indiferent, but the straight cut of the gears is more efficient, so more of the horses reach the tyres.
And one more. If u are good enough u can shift without clutch.

I just wondered how long you could live with it, great as a track car, not best suited as a regular road use vehicle

Well. As it seems, i ll figure it out :-D, cause by the time the leaves fall down, my tiny litle monster ll have the stuff.

And if i run it like the last year, by spring it ll se more than 10000kms...

oh right no it wasnt mine but a mate that had a quaife box in his nova gte but
he is driving away at it but then his exhaust is loud and it kills alot of the noise of the straight cut gears but i still think it sounds good:p maybe different ones are louder than others
