Here's an idea what I've pieced together as below.
There are a few cables joined to a spade at the back of the inlet manifold, the picture below is where it was before I took it out.
By thermostat cable you mean the green coolant temp sensor?
I still couldn't get it started. I removed the mazda injectors incase there was an issue with them. I could see it had primed the fuel because some fuel dribbled out the rail.
I put the oem injectors back in and no.01 pissed out with fuel when I stopped cranking.
I got fed up and give up with it in the end. Doing my head in. Still need to bleed the clutch as well and time was just not in my side. Was trying to get it all done for MOT next week and drive it to japfest, but ain't going to happen now.
