I've down all the work to engine and this was my first time doing such a big project under no supervision haha I have done lots on landys though bit different

sounds like timing mate, what could of happened was there not enough tension on the belt which could cause it to slip a tooth and when a belt isnt tight enough it will make that squeeking noise

Did you put a new all pump on it. If you did. Did you prime it before. Cambelt shouldn't squeak if it's loose. Will just make. It run lumpy and sound like its Mis-firing bud

High pitched noise sounds like a vacuum leak, hold the head a lit cigarette up to the inlet manifold joints and pipes and if it starts to glow there is air being sucked in. It sounds like the cam timing is off, the belt position and dots on the cam sprockets need checked again, remember there is 2 different marks on the intake cam. I think the knocking may not be engine knock but engine gasses being blown out the intake or the exhaust valves at the wrong time as the cams are not timed right mate.

Rep added matey a think ur spot on ... that was my suspisions ... any tricks or hints on how to get the cambelt back on once av retimed the cams ? without almost breakin my fingers again haha

to check the timi9ng belt side get a make up mirror pinch your gf's or mums or sisters if need be, as the dot is really hard to see when engine is in situ without it,

remove the belt, line crank at tdc and put cam so the hole in the pulley clearly lines up with the dot in the head, reattach belt, and loosen tensioner, rotate engine clockwise twice, and check the tdc of the crank pulley and the dot on the head is clearly visible through the centre of the hole in the cam pulley (this is where the mirror comes in handy), if all is well tighten tensioner back up,

when removing the cams did you put a m6 bolt in the cam sprockets on the inlet camshaft? if not upon removal the sprockets will have lost there tension, to get this back into tensin put the cam in a vice, and rotate the sprocket anti clockwise until you can put the m6 bolt through the cam, this will pretension the cam back up.

as others have said also check for vacume leaks, or gasket leaks at the manifolds etc,

On the bottom timing belt cover there is a small round cap that covers the fixing bolt of the tensioner pulley. If you remove the cap you can get a 10mm socket through there and loosen off the bolt, then you can push the pulley away from the belt and nip up the bolt to hold it in place there. This will allow you to get the belt on the top sprocket easier, once its on release the bolt and the belt will pull tight, check the timing marks all line up again after doing this as it can be deceptive when the belt is a little loose. If they all line up, turn the crank twice clockwise with the auxiliary pulley bolt, then while holding the tension on the crankshaft clockwise, nip the tensioner pulley bolt up again.
