EP82/EP85 Heater Matrices

I am currently building my EP85 up and am about to install the heater matrix. My problem is that I have 4 of them and they are all different :S

I think one *might* be different due to the "auto" switch on the heater controls, and one *might* be different if it originally came out of an EP85... maybe.

There are various differences between the 4:

A) H1 is marked "D", others are marked "C"

B) H1 has open/vented section, others are sealed:

C) H1 has much bigger white section inside:

D) H1 & H4 have extra wire underneath

E) H2 is partly grey, others all white.

F) H4 has white cylindrical thing on... I hope I'm not getting too technical here ;) :

G) H4 has extra electronics box on underneath (part number 063700-2883):

Here are the part numbers for each unit:
H1 – “D” - 87150-10350 116100-2904 6Q (almost unreadable)
H2 – “C” – 87150-10340 116100-2875 4M
H3 – “C” – 87150-10340 116100-2875 11P
H4 – “C” – 87150-10340 116100-2875 4P

Can anybody clear this up for me – what are these differences for and which is the “best” design?

Cheers

H4 looks like it came off a climate control equipped starlet.

Not sure about what would be best. Doudt there is much in it tbh. Just stick the best condition one in

I think you're probably right. One of my EP82s did have "Climate Control" so that would make sense. Am I missing something or is the "Climate Control" just an auto button that adjusts the fan speed by itself? Is it at all useful to have or should I not bother with it?

If I had to guess, I'd say that H1 is a newer improved model since it has the extra vent, an extra wire (for god knows what lol) and seemingly a bigger matrix inside. But I could be completely wrong about that lol

Also, the filter in the "fan box" is absolutely disgusting and I doubt much air can get through it... Is this a cabin filter? If so, are replacements still available? Or should I just remove it completely?

And there are various wires and a "TOYOTA 88650-16500 AMPLIFIER ASSY, COOLER STABILIZER" attached to the "air-con box" - is all of this for the air-con? Can I remove it all or does some of it need to stay?

Cheers

And people wonder why changing from manual heaters to climatic control can be a head melter lol..

I think Duncan is right, if you have motors and wiring that should be the climate control version of the heater box. Only fit this if you have the wiring loom to suit otherwise manual heaters will be simpler.

The foam bits are just part of the flap I think, not sure how expensive it would be to renew them.

Basically I'd just fit the one with the least wiring and hope for the best mate. Rods and cables control the manual flaps so it might be easier to retro-fit.

One quick question, is the matrix itself thicker in the unit with the thicker white section? I've never seen a super-sized matrix core before but I'd imagine it could give the interior heater a boost in winter!

Yep, the matrix is definately super sized:

I do have the wiring loom for the climate control one as well as the heater control panel for it. Unless there is a real sdvantage to the climate control, I think I'll fit the super sized one.

Can anyone tell me what this thing does:

it's listed as an Aspirator 88897-22100 but what is does now I don't know...descibed as A Cabin Air Temperature Sensor Aspirator Tube

the climate control uses 2 -3 points of reference for the ambient air temp as well as a sensor on the dash to measure the sun to allow control of the temperature. its pretty sophisticated considering the age of the car and the fact is is basically a small cheap hatchback!

Cheers. I'm now pretty certain that I'll use the uprated "D" model. Just need to figure out what this is for:

Also, should I block the hole where the aspirator goes or leave it open?

And finally, is there a cabin filter anywhere on the EP82?

Cheers guys. Ive now fitted H1 along with a fan and empty air con box.

Can anyone confirm if I can remove all the wires and the "AMPLIFIER ASSY, COOLER STABILIZER" or if they're needed for something else:

I think you can do without the box with the yellow label on the left but if you want your blower to work properly the resistor element (four pin boyo on the box) has to remain where it is and wired in.
