About 15miles away from Silverstone my engine decided to piss water everywhere, upon 1st inspection it look like the waterpump had given up but once i had droped the car home(from the back off an AA truck - pics to follow lol) i went back to silverstone for the rest of the day, now i jsut got home and had another better look at its the headgasket :(
going to start doing it tomorrow as ive got it off work and get it done over the next week.

One question though. i have a 4efe headgasket off a mate, standard one, are they the same as the 4efte as it says 4efe on it?

also im buying a new rad as i came the the conclusion that how i mounted my rad wasnt gettin the flow good enough around the system as my top rad outlet was lower than the block inlet, causing problems when the water pump wasnt in good action. Shame as it was a good idea at the time. wil have to settle for a big civic racing rad, insted of a wide surfaced area one in the bumper.
pics will be uploaded shortly...

Just something to be aware of I know you know mechanically but check the head very well for warping or get it skimmed to be safe and you could compensate for the amount shaved off with an aftermarket thicker HG to bring the CR back down amd allow you to run the same or higher boost than before safer.

When I done my HG the head was slightly warped which I didnt know about at the time so it went again. :(

i doubt the gaskets are the same.have no access to my epc so cant check for ya but im pretty confident they would differ(thickness).

also, nothing wrong with a civic racing rad, you'll be surprised how good they are if you get a good one

yea i did wonder if the head was warped, its only got to last a few months if that tho before i put my other engine in, if the head IS warped and i put the new gasket on, will it seal to start with if i just take it easy.

Not nice Dan, not nice at all mate..:(

The head gaskets are the same.

Replace the waterpump whilst you have the engine stripped down (much easier to access) and make sure you get the head checked out for warping or cracking when it's off - it'll save you a lot of hassle further down the line. These engines don't like heat.

yea its a bit of a bummer but its about time something gave in!.

i check for cracks etc but as for warping is there a specific tool i can use to check myself? as i said it dosnt have to last much longer before the 5e is going in.

Send it to a specialist who can check it professionally mate. It's the difference between doing it once and doing it twice. Also if it does need skimmed you can't get away with much.

The head in my 1990 was skimmed and that's why I don't trust it enough to modify it. I'll be removing that engine as soon as I push for the big figures.

I did just experiance my 200sx with full power though as i bought it home and put the starlet at my place of modding (My nans driveway ) and it more fun that i 1st though, do i use if for a while now hehe

your head will almost certainly need skimming most ally head do once there gasket has gone bust. Just take it to a decent engineering place and they wll do it. Shouldnt cost that much either

there is a pretty old skool way to check if its warped badly but like i said its worth doing even if it looks straight.

Get a metal ruler that obviously isnt bent. Put the edge of it across the head and then shine a torch where the edge of the ruler meets the head. You shouldnt be able to see too much light and obviously any warping will show up. But like i said this is a pretty out dated way of checking it.

Thats a pisser (pardon the pun)
I would get the head skimmed, the slightest amount of warping will lead to another gasket failure.
Seem to me you jinxed yourself, asking about what happens when a car lets go when giving it some!!
A blessing in diguise mabey.........
