unlucky dan, but it was good that it went then rather than if u would have been blasting it down the qtm when it went..

so the 4efte hg is 1.2mm
the 4efe hg is 0.6mm so no they are not the same...

it will raise ur cr drastically, from 8.2:1 to something around 8.5~8.6:1

Thats a big change, thats what the 5e would run with 4e pistons lol.
ill mesure the head gasket but Jay said they have the same part number.

Yea im glad it didnt go on the strip or track would of been faily emmbarasing.

And yea starlets ca tow just about lol!

Guess what dan :( my headgasket went tonight by the looks of it! turned the boost up to 1bar tho, thanks for sorting the fuel cut but now my overflow tank is overflowing lmao! pulled like a train at 1bar tho woo.

What thickness headgasket is recommended to run? think im gonna go for a Speedvision gasket but are they 1.2mm only? gonna have the head skimmed and ill prob do a slight but of work to it polishing, reseating valves etc.

What thickness do i need to equal out the CR?

Cheers

Yea dont mind doing it tbh just more surprised it went i looked after my car all i could and ive been running 0.9bar max since tonight lol, o well there only £65 and once its done its done, you getting your head skimmed or just putting it back on?

not had it checked yet, dont really want it skimmed as itll lower the CR :(

pumba- ye im doing it myself.

standard gasket dosnt have an sealer on it, is it recomended on our engines to use sealer??

actually goldenvtr......with the 4efte pistons in the 5e......al else remaining the same......your CR will be about 9.1......with cylinder pressures between 165psi - 185psi per cylinder (lower iitialy after rebuild...THEN tend to get a little higher when the engine settles-----hence the range)

to get compression ratio of 8.5/8.6....u would either have to shave the 4efte piston by about 0.4mm - 0.5mm (20 thou) OR run a 1.6 - 1.8mm headgasket

good luck with it Dan!! hope you get it sorted! was a shame but better it didnt happen on the track or else everyone else who had booked track time might have been after your blood lol

True, might see about gettin the pistons shaves half a mil and run a 1.2 or 1.4mm gasket. how would this affect the weakness off the pistons?

1) shaving 4efte pistons 0.5mm (20 thou) with 1.2mm h/gasket (metal--minimal crushing) should result in a CR of 8.3 with expected cylinder compression of 150psi - 160 psi per cylinder

2) shaving 4efte pistons 0.5mm (20 thou) with 1.4mm h/gasket (metal--minimal crushing) should result in a CR of 8.1 with expected cylinder compression of 145psi - 155 psi per cylinder

based on MY calculations
take a read of this......if u have not seen it already.........a 5efte creation from begining to end
http://www.bajanchameleon.com/rebuild_price_list.html

PLEASE read those 4-5 pages (at the bottom of each page there are links to the next page)---they will come in very handy for u

to show u how close my cauculation was......for shaved 5efhe pistons (only removing the crown itself) with standard h/gasket......a CR of 9.2 with cylinder compression of 169psi - 185psi per cylinder......check it against that for yourself with an actual built project:)--------NOTE: this is alomst the same as using the OEM 4efte piston in the 5efte set up:p

Nice info, ive read through that site before but need to redo it a few times to take it ALL in, i think if i shave a little off the 4efte pistons i have by a minimal amount itll do me fine, i want to run as close to standard 4e compression as i can really.

yeah i understand u loud and clear.....may be nice to have a little more CR than the stock 4efte though......look at hoodey, slostar, etc.....bigger turbos, proper tune (emanage, standalone), and still doing well around the 9.0CR mark.........but i know u want the added protection for piece of mind

to me......the 5efte can be built with a CR anywhere between 8.0 - 9.8..........depending on how much boost is expected.........i honestly feel 8.7 - 9.1 CR will suit most with a proper tune.........and we dont even get god quality gas over here like u all do:)
