There is also a core plug in the cylinder head next to the timing belt idler it could be that but it's more than likely the water pump I would say.

i'm curious; how would a car end up parked for a year+..? :| was it sick when it got garaged..? is the leaking coolant gushing out, or just in droplets..?

is a core plug the same as a freeze/frost plug , that taps into the block??

when i pulled the car out the other day after being lying up for the winter, one of the freeze plugs on the front of the block had popped out,, i got a few freeze plugs and fitted one of them to the block ,then when i filled the system with coolant i dribbles out of the bottom of the timing belt cover and down the side of the sump

Sounds like she's seen a freeze then mate, the core plug behind the timing belt cover must have popped like the one on the front.

Awkward job but sure, least the parts are cheap lol.

rite lads, i got the leak behind the timing belt cover sorted,, it was the core plug that had popped,, i replaced with a new one

put coolant in it then after and left it running for 5 min, then brought it for a drive & it over heated and was also putting water out the overflow pipe, so another problem for me to fix !!

its also idling high & hunting a bit

and battery going dead, car dies when i turn on heating of full lights

rest of the car is fairly good though

problems galore

overheating..? bad thermo perhaps..? high idling and hunting proli means you have a vacuum leak somewhere or your idle control valve is messed - worth a check too. battery too? man, your car really needed some tlc :p if you have a multimeter, you can check your voltage and current readings off the batt. it may just need replacement if it's served for a long minute..

Might be worth giving the coolant system a flush as its been sitting about, make sure you have all the flushing agent out before refilling it with antifreeze but or it will bubble as its a detegent. This might take about 4 or more times of filling the system up with clean water and letting the car run before emptying it out, and also make sure you run water through the rad until it runs clear each time as well.

I would say the high idle and hunting are down to the battery being flat. When an ecu has been unplugged for a while it runs the car like this until it gets its bearings of the engine. A good battery and a while driving could sort this out.

id say u need a new rad cap, thats why its coming out the overflow... and if ur using the same battery that was sitting up for the year its gone, get a new one, if its a fresh battery u need an altonator
