I phone 4?

hi, i work for o2 and have had both an iphone and an android phone. the iphones great for the less tech savvy people but i would hold out for the immenant iphone 5 as i predict a larger jump forward in technology than the 3gs - iphone 4.

I much prefer my htc desire(not the hd version battery lasts on that about 3 hours) to the iphone, its quicker to use more customisable and it has fully integrated gps with voice guidance built in for nothing. theyre also cheaper and i get about 2 days out of it with average usage just let the battery die completely and charge it up good for the first couple of weeks.

I would stay away from windows mobile phones for the meantime as theyre simply too complicated to use for the normal person to use and are relatively new so still need a few bugs ironed out.

thats exactly it , for the first couple of weeks this is the most important, after that its not as big a deal but it if your not planning on changing phone for a while keep at it and your battery will survive a couple of years. Also if you get your hands on a 1 piece wired charger as opposed to the socket/usb port/usb cable that come with most new smartphones as they dont provide as good a charge.

Apps and a good OS make the Iphone as good as it is. It might not be the best spec wise but the OS just works. The apps just work and there are plenty of them. Unless you're going to carry around loads of movies and music I would say the 16GB one is fine. I've got the 32GB one myself and have loads of apps and a fair bit of music on it and it's just less than half full. Its movies that eat up the space tbh.

Jailbreaking just allows you to put unsigned apps onto the iphone. I've jailbroken mine a couple of times (unfortunately each OS update removes the jail break) and there are some interesting apps. Lots of hacking, network type apps that might be useful if you like to tinker but TBH the best apps are usually on the apple store anyway. Using iTunes is uneffected by having a jailbroken phone.

so, when jailbroken, you can still use i tunes, an app store etc as normal. an then all the free apps aswel?

Exactly, the free apps wont be copied across to your itunes however but everything still works as normal, until you upgrade the OS then your free apps will disappear from view on your phone however they will still exist in the phones memory till you jailbreak it again and they'll reappear.

is the jail break a hard process?

Not usually. Of the 3 different ones i've tried it usually entails downloading a modified version of the phone firmware first, loading up the modding program, turning your phone off, holding down the Home button, keeping held down as you power it back on, modding program picks the phone up in a programable state, pushes out the modified firmware to the phone and reboots. It is a fairly easy process, just read the instructions carefully maybe a couple of times just so you know what button to hold and when and it should be fairly painless. Usually once successful a "Cydia" app will appear on the phone which in a sense is similar to the app store where you can search for apps or you can browse down catagories, i.e. games, social, network etc and download the free apps available. There are paid apps available via Cydia as well but again should you update your firmware to a new apple one you'll have to jailbreak your phone again for the apps to appear back on the phone.

Didnt have a chance to check back here, bloody long day at work! Yeah that windows theme was pretty awesome and confused a hell of a lot of people, to the point they thought I installed windows phone 7os! (long process though).

Yeah dan just give me a shout any time I'm still running ios 4.1 not bothered with an upgrade as it works perfectly fine like this and all Cydia apps/area's work where as a lot don't on 4.3 (Will obviously be updated soon) Not 100% sure if an untethered jailbreak has been released for 4.3 yet as a few hackers/develops say they will hold off until 4.3.1 is released so save the jailbreak! once jailbroken if you install appsync4.0+ it will sync your cracked apps with iTunes! :p Hopefully your iphone doesnt come with 4.3 installed as it may not be possible to downgrade without the shshblolbs from previous ios! None of this probably makes any sense to you lol, anything you need to know etc just give me a shout.

That's right mate, you only use 3g while using an app that uses the net! ringtones you have to either jailbreak and get them from cydia/tonefxs/unlim tones or cut the sounds on itunes at about 30seconds and sync with your phone!

I'll link you Liam it's not that simple to do though lol. The site below has pretty much everything you need to know about iphone modding etc!

right guys, the day i got it, i had too set it up. connecting it too comp which allowed it too charge, then i let it drop too around 20%, now i charged it overnight, an then since yday around 12pm. its gone down too 4% say a 24 hour periiod. is that normal? with average usage on the phone, messages apps an games etc. when it gets too 1% i plan too charge it again too 100%

thanks

Yeah Depending on how much you've used it! thinks like having bluetooth, wifi, 3g on reduces battery life pretty quick!
