hi guys just wanna get some opinions,
got stopped last nite on way home from college. went around a bend to see 2 gaurds there. he waves me to pull in which i do. he greets me with 'how ya speedy' i was doing about 15km as id just left a junction.and the roads are crap and narrow. he tells me and 3 others to get out car and took my car for a drive. he came back 5 mins later sayin its a 'deathtrap' and i should scrap it. hes sayin brakes arent workin properly shocks are gone and the exhaust rattles.. no mention of it being loud though???And he lets me drive off in this 'deathtrap'!
any way he tells me then i have till sunday week to get it fixed and bring it up to him in a station 40 miles away... i brought it to my mechanic he said he doesnt see anything wrong but recommended gettin a pre nct type thing done and if its ok show him the print out of that.

has anyone else on here had to do anything like this or similar problems??
i have nct tax and insurance on the car..

Never heard of this before, Did you get the guards number ? Once you get the ok about your car report him to his "commanding officer" (no idea what they called them down here) . He has no right at all to "take your for a spin". :shoot:

dont get me started dude, i got stopped last week, for having my spots on, and while he had me he decided to try do me for my tints, my number plate, exhaust was too loud, provisional licience and L plates,, for starters i told him that there was no light on the dash to indicate my fogs were on, secondly the tints were factory, incidently my car failed NCT on the old number plate, so i changed it to the present one and passed(long number plate lying flat below fmic) he said it had to be completely vertical, my apexi n1 had the silencer fitted and on the apexi website it says that with the silencer installed it is well within the exceptable sound limit, so after disputing these factors, he waved me on with a big red face, i think the clown forgot i had a provo... i am sick of them,:mad:

get used to it man cause wen your young they like to rape ya i was constantly getting stopped for nothing and they were always pointing out something new but nothing ever happened cause they are full of shit most of the time and they just dont like these cars

especially the female ones there worse:slap:

fact the women are the worst, power trips and why should we suffer over some cunt who is pms'ing cos of the rag... try meeting the trffic corp when they have a trainee or 2 with them, they fucking throw the book at ya to show how its done

ya i got his name anyway. ive booked the test on tuesday so we'll see how that goes anyway.
its usually the old ones with the attitude problems. i was talking to his partner, he was a young fella and he was sound.

I was pulled over three times in the same day with my brother in the car, taken out of the car and searched me, my brother and the car from top to bottom all three times. The last time I got a bit pissed off and asked the female garda was it the car or what? She told me "yea, and my goldy looking chain" ( i was wearing a silver chain) WTF??????

I get pulled all the time, never any hassle. No matter how much of a dick there being im always polite and courteous and they always send me on my way, no bother. Too be honest saying the vast majority are assholes is just utter bollox! Majority are sound if your sound too them...simple as. Very narroe minded too just paint them all with the same brush, they are just doing there job after all and tbh i'd say they have to deal with right dickheads alot of the time so you can pardon their initial negativity

edit: Taking your car for a spiin Mossey, now that I dont understand or agree with, think that cop may have been taking the piss. You should have just said no

I agree with you to a certain extent, I grew up in Leitrim and moved to Dublin when I was 19, the guards outside of Dublin are grand. The guards up here are a different story, they seem to tar everybody with the same brush.

as above i will always be polite and have respect for the law also, but only to a certain extent.... i have respect for the majority of them and would never contemplate being cheeky to a gaurd, but when a prick just abuses the power they are given well i will challenge them... the majority are not sound tbh honest,, the small minority are. Let them piss off up to limerick and dublin and catch real criminals who fucking kill people and sell drugs.

To the original poster - If I were you I would call the station he is based at and speak to the Sargent. I would tell him that you want to make a complaint as Garda X stopped you without a valid reason, ordered you from your car and then proceeded to unlawfully take your car for a "test drive".

I would demand a meeting with both the Sargent and the Garda in question and would advise the sargent that if you receive a face to face apology you will not pursue this matter further via the Garda Ombudsman.

I would then attend the meeting and sit happily as the garda apologises to you.

Another route I would take is to email the Joe Duffy show with this story and ask them to find out if this is legal or not. They will most probably run this story and nationally disgrace this idiot.

Do not back down... stand up for yourself its simple and will make this muppet think twice before doing this to someone else. If you want me to send this to the Joe Duffy show on your behalf say so in this thread and I will email you and you can respond with the relevant details and I will send them the story.

I have already emailed the Garda press office to ask them if this is legal and common practice.

i got pulled on friday on the m1 by the fuzz in a marked evo 8 bastards. checked my insurance to make sure i had the car insured as a TURBO? be worned all those in N.I. who r only insurin as a 1.3 u will get caught they ain't stupid?
