Let talk turbochargers, dare to be diffrent?

guess every1s power need are a bit different......for me i want about 200hp from the 5e td04 with a FAT torque curve........some guys want 250+++......all depends on what u want and for what purpose.........its bet to determine your purpose before u go building...lol.....i agree with u though turbodave...in FWD light weight cars.....there are limits .....but limits are meant to be broken..lol

interesting pice of information.

how will a TD05-16g behave on a 5E? as the displacemant is 500cc less.

me to try to run ihi vf28/ suburu STi ver 5 upon my 5E thinggy completed. my mech expected she start boosting from 3600 rpm onward. BUT with fully forged machine I intend to run atleast 1.4 bar n my prediction she will come orgasme/boosting at early of 3200 rpm. my higest with this rhf5 vf28 shall max at 1.6 bar

Is it safe to boosting 1.4 bar with 1.2 mm gasket plus forged machine, any comment is tq :shoot:

p/s: my experienced as below on 4E 1331cc = vf28 start boosting from 2800rpm as same as the mighty ct9 BUT the car being animal. I quote this due to thier ball bearing

having been in a 4e running a vf28 turbo i know for a fact that ot dosnt boost that early! its more like 4500!! ball bearing turbo wont spool much quicker, they just dont slow down as much under closed throttle!

ive read through that and find it quite interesting, but for mid range power and a decent spool up which of the VF series is most suited to a 4efte?

vf 30 or 34, but the irflow maps on the 4e engine will tell more... youll get lag, but if your after a hard pulling top end car if go for one of them.
i maybe trying quite a few setups soon ;)

Well since most of u are not aware, the vf22 & vf34 are oldish turbos.. in fact most of the wrx's have turned to the td04L for a reason as it has a better spoolup & roughly the same top end as teh vf34...

although the vf series turbos are ball bearing, they bearing system is pretty outdated & thus dont give so much over the td04L in fact id say its not much of an upgrade.

if ur lookin for a real upgrade go for the following:

Power enterprise PE1818 (for very driveable car @ 1bar it gives out 570CFM) well this spools just the same as the td04L & pushes out so much more.. (output up till 21psi)

Power enterprise PE1820 Top end turbo only.. recommended for a 5e wanting to run more than 21psi. .as the top end results it gives are impressive.. @ 1bar it gives out 620CFM..

Thanks

I was looking into all of those turbo's before too.

Agree with what some of you are saying, the TD04 is a very well suited turbo for our needs hence why its done to death! Just an advantage they are cheap!

I want to build up a 5EFTE running 1bar as i want good repsonse, not lots of bhp! 1bar on a 5E should see 220bhp+ thats plenty for a fwd tin can.

I was gonna go for a TD04, and may well still go for it, but curently i am considering the T25. I know stock, the T25 isnt quite as good as a TD04, but later on (cue trip to usa ;)) i could pick up a GT25R turbo which are the dogs danglies, and think would be spot on for a 5E running 1 bar :D

bump this topic

basically want to know what other turbos people have used and there results?

GT25R?

GT28 off a 200sx?

T3 off a cosworth or RS turbo

t25 from a rover 200 or many other cars they come off?

what turbo does a GT4 or mr2 use? anyone tryed them?

basically just interested in a few different ideas really.
