LSD GEARBOX- how will i know!?

Jack the car up on one side out of gear and try turning the wheel. If it is hard to turn you got a lsd.

Right, is there no other way of checking? just in case i get there and he hasn't got a jack.... he has told me that the fact it doesn't wheelspin means it has got an lsd box in there.... is he right in saying that?

No, my car still wheelspins and i have an lsd, there isnt a clear cut way of telling unless you jack it up mate. If necessary use the oem jack that is in the boot!

alright mate, i will have to do that then. sorry to be a pain but what is the benefit of having an lsd gearbox then? thanks

Ir reduces wheels spin, as it transfers power and torque to both wheels under acceleration/decelleration, even if one has less traction then the other, if this were the case normally, the power would all be fed through the wheel with least traction causing one wheel to spin.

another way of putting it is that it alters the amount of power to each wheel allowing the wheel with the most grip to have more torque fed to it.

when i bought my glanza i was told it had a lsd...
it rarely spins wheels and if i try to spin the wheels the front of the car will pull from side to side..- i thought this proved it had a lsd but a few weeks ago i jacked my car up and each wheel spins freely indicating theres no lsd..

im confused with it!:confused:

factory LSD equipped gearboxes use driveshafts of equal length..
so if you look underneath the car and both driveshafts are exactly the same length , you have a factory LSD..

lsd??

Soooo, i've been told this gearbox is an lsd one but i dont want to open it up all the way and the only numbers i can find on it are these. anyone got any idea.

all you gt anoraks the code i found is x50330652, dont know what this code means but hopefully means lsd. who knows

hmmm can't really tell from just looking at the gearbox as LSD inside! Also those numbers dont really mean anything.... Check the chassis plate for stock LSD or the car's history for aftermarket one...

Send me a pic of the box where the driveshaft goes in.The pic needs to be with the shafts taken out and showing right through the hole they fit into.

i still have the green bits on which the driveshafts go into, are these what you mean or do they need to be out. pics coming in a moment.

If you found out you didnt have an LSD, will your car suddenly drive differently?

If your not sure weather you have an LSD or not then the benefits of having one wont be obvious to you so wouldn't make much difference weather you had one or not. see what im saying?
