there are a few of these in Ireland that I have seen. To be honest Im not a fan of the shape I think they are okay from the front but I never liked the slope of the back of them.

If I was going less than 2ltr 4WD I would get a lancer GSR instead. Far better tuning platform to begin with in my opinion.

A car that's very much under rated in favor of it's bigger brothers.

couldnt agree more...
And to be fair the gsr is not blistering stock by any means but I think they are nicer to look at and can be turned into a particularly potent beast if time and effort is applied - Id be happy with one... Id tune it up, plaster it with GSR stickers and wait for someone to take the bait :)

I guess that all depends on what you’re comparing them to…

I have not ever had the chance to rag the hell out of either of the ones I have been in so I will trust your judgment on that.

I can only compare them to the GT and the 200 that I own and there far faster have more torque than either of them

As for most of your other comment again I agree which is why I am putting off getting one for the time being but imo if you rag the hell of it you should expect it to give up at some point…

elaine, the ones you went in were both 300hp right? i will agree there once they reach that sort of power they really do transform as a car... and compared to a starlet does feel alot more punchy with a a strong forceful delivery......

lol at the ragged comment :p ....... What i meant is ive had a good play with the car on countless of occasions, i even drove it to brighton, 50 mile motorway drive....

I no one is deff hitting over 300bhp the other only had FMIC so not much more than standard I would have thought... all I can comment on is what I have been in and I love them even with there faults

Sorry about the ragged comment did not mean it how it came across :p

When your mates is fixed will you ask him if I can go for a drive please :D

well according to corsa sport these are standard figures of a 323

Vehicle year Bhp 0-30 0-60 0-100 1/4mile time
Mazda 323 4x4 Turbo 1987 148 2.2 7.1 22 15.6

Been having a look at these and I must say they are very nice cars if well maintained and also not a lot more on the insurance surprisingly! Does anyone have any experience with them or heard of any common faults etc???

how interesting...i seldom come into this section....so this could be a sign

my advise to u is LEAVE that car alone......it looks nice and is an ok car IF left stock---maybe not even then soemtimes:)

the gtx and gtr break gearbox parts pretty easily....and not easy to replace or find---expensive

i know someone who broke about 9 gearboxes....and then got a custom one made,,,,,,,,he broke that also.......

sad thing these cars can make huge power...but the 4*4 transmissions just dont seem capable of holding it.........kind og like the pulsar gtir

A mate just brought one in very quick and good engines as for boxes, diffs and parts I dont know there rare cars so parts are rarer.

There a quite a few in NZ and there a tons of GTX's. Alot of mates of mine have had GTX's as first cars, quite cheap over here.

Drivetrain is arse

My mate had a 323 GTR, took him 18 months to find a really nice one. Very rare and parts are also very hard to get for them, you will pay. I think there also around insurance group 14 if i remember right.

I think you lot are way over estimateing what they are capale of. As said you can't launch them or you will break the gearbox. And i seriously doubt hitting 300bhp on a stock turbo, its almost identical to a ct9. They are also very slow considering the spec a real money sinker if you want to make it fast. Nice car still but don't kid yourself aout how good they are.

my friend has a couple of these. running a t3/t4 hybrid on 2 of them. and the other is unknown, he doesnt like to talk what he has on em, but the t3/t4 ones has "350whp" supposedly, and the other, he says if you dont dont do atleast 10seconds dont try, on track that is. i think hes talking crap, but he does work on turbines for a living and for the government. so who knows. 323 GT from '88 BTW.

your correct about everything bar the fact the turbo is equivalent to a CT9....

The turbo the GTR comes with standard can hit around 380hp(proven) on 1.8-2.0bar boost...... Not highly recommended running quite that much but 350hp is easily achieved. It is large mate, we've taken it off enough times, far bigger then the CT9... Its of a similar size to my CT20 and the CT20 is quite a big turbo to be honest.....

It's a big ball bearing turbo

Aye, RHB5 VJ23, the GTX uses a VJ14 which is impossible to find. I've been looking on eBay (Worldwide) for about 3 months. Same turbo fitted to my GTxx, it's awesome.

I've heard the gearboxes are a little fragile, but most of it is probably down to the treatment they get whilst being 4x4.

Too rare, my cars are rare enough and it's a pain in the back side.

The shell looks similar to starlet, and g200 charade, just looks like a few panels are swapped here and there.
