Meister R Coilovers Review

Meister R review :

Basically after seeing and hearing that alot of people are changing suspension/chassis setups to accomodate the every decaying UK roads I thought I'd give my honest input into the new Meister R's available to us.

My suspension before consisted of Cusco Type Zero coilovers with pillowball topmounts. The handling was awesome and the ride quality extremely firm, they were nice with my old 4e Td04 setup and I loved them even with my LSD.

However after going 5e Gt30 :drive:and aiming for a fast road car, track car it was decided that I needed something more suited to roads int he Southeast and by me saying Southeast I mean crater filled roads that are badly repaired.

I considered BC's, Teins, Meister's K-sport everything but eventually settled on the Meister's as the spring rates were awesome and they were developed with UK roads in mind.:holdit:

Jerrick is a top fella and delivered the coilovers to my house for me to fit.

First Impressions were great, the coilovers looked the part, well made, solid, plenty of damping settings, full comprehensive instructions and new nuts , C-spanners to accompany the kit.

They were uber easy to fit even for a dummy like myself , and if I say they were easy I mean easy I just make it look hard as I take days cleaning, painting, powdercoating, greasing etc etc etc lol:haha:. The fronts taking around an hour and the backs around the same.

Whats even better is that the coilovers come pre-setup and on the right height settings, sitting the car lovely and low but not low enough to ruin, flexi's, bearings, arches.;)

I had an issue with the tracking and alignment being thron totally out ........... but not a problem Jerrick put me onto a good friend Ian from I.A motorsport who specialises in drift and race suspensions setups and within 2 hours my car was handling and driving awesome.

On the road with a mid damping setting the car feels like its on coilovers but soaks up bumps and potholes fantastically while still giving you that confidence to chuck it in to a roundabout and come out the other end facing the right way.

On the softer damping settings you could do a 400-500mile journey easily and still get out without backache , again soaking up bumps and lumps very easily but I did get some scrubbage on the arches due to me using 10mm spacers to accomodate my Wilwoods. But that is to be rectified with wider arches eventually.

On the Hardest setting this suspension again is great but it would absolutely be at home on a track but still gives a feeling of comfort.

Im still testing these and have done 300miles this weekend alone, The main difference for me is that the car gets traction when accelerating hard over a slightly uneven surface and doesn't want to guide you into the nearest hedge.

All in all a great coilover for anyone considering a different setup to the norm.

:)

Just some pics of how she sits now, you could absolutely slam these to the floor, JDM civic style but for now this setup does me.

thats great to see a detailed, independant review of these coilovers.
to be fair, i've heard nothing bad from anyone that has bought these, whether they are on Starlets, Civics etc.
repped for taking the time to write it all up :)

Nice, well written review fella, think we're going to have to gather threads like this and compile some sort of feedback area. Would be good to get a few different viewpoints on the options out there and would give people a heads up on what to expect.

After you've done a few thousand miles it would be worth revisiting this thread and offering an update on your experiences with them.

The cars looking well too mate!

Cars looking well Kb, there a great bit of kit these coilovers plenty of adjustablity on the damping. When mines back on the road i need to get a full geometry setup asap. Did you get a print off showing your geometry settings afterwards?

regarding your 10mm spacers was this so that the wilwood callipers cleared spokes on the rotas?

Glad to hear you are enjoying them Kriss, always like to hear happy customers reviews. :)

Cars looks very good also, remember the damper will take a bit of time to break in so keep playing with the damping adjustment if you feel the damping have changed.

And the only other thought on my mind from the review... Slam it... JDM Civic Style!
(Well, maybe just for a picture. :p )

you couldn't do me a favour and either scan it in or take a pic of it could you. a friend of mine needs his gt setup and his uncle has a decent 4 wheel alignment machine at his bodyshop but with the car not been a uk model he didnt know what settings to set it to.

I've also just fitted these (well nearly 2 weeks ago now) and I totally agree with your review krissy.
I don't have spacers on mine but it does scrub the plastic liner over some dips in the road or when I really chuck it into a bend but I do have it quite low to be fair.
I'm running mine on damping level 24 and they're nowhere near as crashy as the kyb climb gears were.
Gonna get mine on the scales this week for a balancing then have the toe and camber set in work and give them a good old testing :D.

Also I remember someone mentioned they had to cut the metal away on the car to get the Allen key in when the camber is set for alot of negative. If anyone is going to do this then don't, just move 2 of the Allen bolts to the middle holes instead.
