Hello everyone, Great site & thought i better join up & introduce myself here!!..:)
I have been into JDM sports for a long time now..& hankered after a Pulsar for some time...unfortunatley most are either rotten & OR overtuned!!....( i have seen one immaculate for nearly thirteen grand!!..'i want what there on lol!'...:haha:
So ..last year i was sat behind this toyota ..Hmm what's that a Glanza V !?..quickly learned it was an EP91 & a jdm starlet?..but WOW a turbo vers?...bet there rare & expensive!! i thought...saw the car a number of times & got to like it more & more...even though every panel was dented..i thought it looked ace!!.
So i set about searching for one!!...i was suprised through the price range!! anywhere from 2.5~5K!!...Oh there not cheap:eek:....& not very common like impreza's or even Mitsu Evo's...i really wanted a standard car.
But last week i played a blinder & won this little Gem off the O'l Bay!!..my own 1997 Glanza-V Turbo!!..Yay:rockon:....i think i got it real cheap & i'll let you guys guess what i paid!!....
Astonishingly it has only been in the UK for 18 months & TEN of those it was sat in someones garden!!...unloved:(...
It came with 4 as-new Yokohama prada's!!..stainless TTE backbox..HKS mushroom induction filter...no radio, Trd alloys..undamaged!!..& some lowering springs 'don't know what brand yet?...
I picked it up 60 miles away yeaterday eve at chester & i switched it to low boost...its quite pokey & sounds like darth vader when you accelerate!!...awesome:cool:
everything works & i was suprised for a 1997 car...its tight as a drum / no knocks, no pulling, st wheel straight & brakes are spot on...i was griinning like the proverbial cheshire kat last night bringing this home i can tell ya!!~
Here she is ..just popped out to take this for you folks!!.
Happy days...
DSCF0822.jpg

Today it sat at home in my drive & i will put it on the road at the end of the month...today i spent £200 on service kit, handbrake cables + rear pads n discs..still deciding on the grade of spark plug, i removed & checked a paggerd worn Denso PK20R11....folk are recommending NGK grade 6 iridiums?.
I also need the correct size battery...someone has fitted one twice the size & thrown the batt clamp away!!..lovely.
Also need a wheel brace & correct jack!!..
Tomorrow night i'll get home from work..have my tea & get it in the garage to service & prep for winter....it'll get a hefty dose of Waxoyle injected into her!!..
Cheers
Marc

Thanks...for the warm welcome guys!!, believe it or not i just dragged myself out of the garage & left it for now...made some toast n a pot o tea!...i'm in at work tomorrow..but doing my own thing if you know what i mean;).
Yes...got the service done....a promising sign was a clean 'not rusty' blue print oil filter fitted..i'll have to get some of those oil filter sockets..it was a little tricky with my small filter strap!.
The oil was as black as coal...it'll get many oil changes until it comes clean again...the Denso pk20 plugs i removed were well worn & burning ok though.
The fuel filter was probably the original one...a gen toyota, it was full of crap..but long overdue for replacement.
i got a great deal on a Gates timing belt kit..i'll do that job tomorrow...
I also got the correct sized battery a Yuasa....then went rooting around my local breakers yard & sourced a battery clamp...cleaned & painted it & all ship shape in that depo now!
I noticed in the glovebox was a gen leather Toyota gearknob with red logo..i took the original giant plaggy weighty one off & fitted that one instead...looks miles better!!..i had to drill it out slightly..as it was probably from another toyota sports car...?
I removed all the bits of crap out of the car & cleaned up the inside of the boot..someone had spilled screen wash in there!.
i'm really struggling to find any rust on this car..& i'm amazed just how clean it is...gotta get this blathered in hefty amounts of waxoyle before it hits our roads...winters knocking on the door!!:(
The HKS Filter looks like new..but it was just resting on the existing old airbox fixing brackets...so i made my own bracket to secure the hefty mushroom filter...i feel better now..& hate shoddy work!, the original cold air duct just needs modifying slightly...i'll cop that tomorrow.
So...once the Timing belt kits done ...i'll start on the brakes, there was an MOT failiure sheet & the handbrake was 13% eff....rear discs red rusty & nothing left of the pads, also the hanbrake cables are sticking.....
I got New handbrake cables ...along with rear discs, rear wheels bearings 'toyo' new B-pads...all Bluprint items..i got each disc for £35 & there the ABS vers!!..suprised at said price..as last night i saw them for £135 on the bay + postage!!...
I' think i'll clean the calipers too & give them a lick of black caliper paint.
There's just not enough time in the day!!...i better get to bed now:).
Thanks.

Ok Guys..i'm on the road with the Glanza now & i really like it...However its far to low for me & i can tell its too far as the Front antiroll bar touched on the ramp wheel free '4 poster'...so this needs sorting.
I discovered someone had dropped this on standard shocks & there's quite a bit of 'bounce' on uneven roads....so hitting the internal bumpstops..then, not good.
So i also noticed the front top mounts looking a little worse for wear too...alais there's No knocks or sqeaks etc...just a murmer from the heater blower...easy fix.
I decided to go down the Coilover path & so then i can raise the vehicle a little higher & switch to a soft setting for these rough roads...& tackle any humps with ease...at the moment i'm down to 5mph to clear them....if i go faster i fear damage would be inevitable.
Also i found a reciept for a new sUmp last year...so i guess the prev owner hit something....if the roads were like billiard tables..then fair enough i would leave it...but i got to have this practical, & tbh on these roads lower is only a LOOKS thang & certainley won't go any better around corners of our roads any faster.
