OEM LSD gearbox recon

After just having my gearbox and clutch replaced due to the gearbox making a damn awful noise and jumping out of 2nd it looks like i did have a Diff afterall.. Wasnt entirely sure i did but the driveshafts are different size and there is a noticeable extra chunk of metal on the dead box..

Was wondering what i should do with the box to be honest. Is it worth having recon'd ? or is it worth checking out the LSD and see what it actually is and if theres any damage and selling just that ?

I also have the driveshafts spare so will get them up for sale if its not worth doing a recon on the box.. Ive no idea as the extent of damage today as i wasnt there to see the box out.

Any thoughts would be appreciated :)

so uve a stock gearbox in there now?

the lsd is no good to anyone unless they have a OEM lsd gearbox too.. how ever, the rear mount, short drive and sandwich plate for OEM lsd box make a few bob.. you could recon the box and sell on the lot too

Yea unfortunately :/ .. Ahh right. Im guessing its OEM as it has the shorter shaft and an extra lump of metal on the gearbox where the shaft goes into (compared to the non LSD box) The aftermarket LSD's are actually inside the box itself right ?

I was hoping to make a little money back if that was the case as im sure there are people out there who have the OEM box and need the extra bits that come with them like you said.

What kind of price would it be for a recon on the box? Any ideas?

Thanks Corofin.

yep, all aftermarket lsd's go inside the box and use stock drives so yours is defor OEM lsd...

over here in ireland you would be paying 300 or more to recon a gearbox... id sell on the parts and someone may be willing to pay for the box aswel at a lower price of course

Thanks again mate.. Got it all fitted etc. Sadly have a small crack in the 5th gear casing (hopefully i can just get it sorted with some JB weld or something).

looks like the seal is gone on the new box now tho :( .. Got small drips coming out where the back of the box joins to the main part thats bolted to the car.. How easy are those to change?

I have no luck :(

gearbox oil seal ya? where the drives go into the box?

if so, ull have to drain the oil in the box, remove drive and prise out the old seal.. be careful putting in new seal.. i used a socket the size of the seal "big" and tapped in the seal using a hammer/socket "lightly tap it in and make sure the seal is going in evenly".. corolla gearbox oil seals are the same so get those, may be even cheaper :)

Thanks again bud.. I hope it is just those seals.. Not been able to get under the car with this snow so not 100% if thats whats the problem.. Fingers crossed it is. Do they ever leak around the box joints? (where the 3 seperate parts of the box are joined. 5th gear housing has a seal to the main box, then the part that goes over the clutch and bolts onto the engine is sealed to the middle part of the gear box) hopefully its not that seal thats leaking..
