as above picked up another GT today

trailered the car back on my recovery truck as didn't want to risk driving it

basically car has had a new 1.3mm copper headgasket & ARP headbolts from a well known specialist engine builder

engine was removed from the car 4 months ago due to a headgasket on its way out (had chemical test done)

so after fitting new gasket etc

problem now is it starts fine BUT once the car warms up n if i rev it for a few mins the fan constantly stays on & car starts to over heat BUT if i do the same with taking off the radiator cap off the water jumps up right high all over the engine bay

thermostat was changed today but still the same issue.. might be a headgasket failure again? no cream in oil cap & no oil n water mix

was previous owners long term project car so had all stuff changed on engine like water pump, thermostat, plugs, thicker head-gasket ARP's, oil pump, belts etc

theres no smoke from the car at all

any info much appreciated

thanks folks! :)

Just a random guess...but it kind of sounds like the headgasket isn't properly matched and might be blocking water flow. Any way to verify it's the proper gasket?

Could be as simple the head gasket is up side down/ wrong way around seen it before , was the head skimmed?

Hi, yes the gasket was the right one as it was brought from Tim @ tb-developments on here

The only other problem we did have when we first started the car up was we had a slight leak from the back of the engine as theres the small little square water hole on the back of cylinder head where the inlet manifold bolts onto the head we had a slight leak from there as we was supplier with the wrong inlet gasket so what we did was we user some instant gasket on the back of the cylinder head where this water way hole was we blocked that off & used the old gasket again & have no leaks from there at all

If i've confused anyone then i can get some pics up of the cylinder head where we used the instant gasket on to block the leak

Also the cylinder head was skimmed

Cheers

Yeah there is two different gasket to match the intake manifold, one with waterways open and one with them blocked off.

Maybe try a new rad cap mate, cheapest option.

Yeah we've blocked off the back of the cylinder head with some instant gasket, basically we've filled the water way with the sealant

& i dont think it can be rad cap because when the cap is off n car warms up water jumps right up n starts to pressurise also i'm using a half size civic rad & blitz rad cap which has been on the car for 2 years no problems before

Sounds like exhaust gas is leaking into the cooling system, prime suspect in these cases is the head gasket, or a cracked head.

hi, the only other thing i can think of is when the 1.mm cometic head gasket was fitted i gave him the torque settings which wre for standard gasket, as i used ARP's

so maybe cos the head has been torqued to standard torque settings?

what would be the torque settings for arp's for using a 1.3mm gasket ?

word of warning, 4e blocks like to warp, although they may be within tolerence, if there slightly warped they gotta have a block skim, no matter how many times you change the headgasket. the problem is even worse still when fitting a multi layer steel gasket

Yes the cylinder head was professionally skimmed tho :-/
