Problem with fitting new bucket seat....

Right fellas ive got a bit of a problem :homer:

Just received a new bucket seat and attempted to fit it today...... it came with universal rails which proved Fuck all useful.... Spent over an hour trying to work out how to modify it somehow to fit, no luck.....

I also noticed that the the seats "WIDTH" was about 4 inches smaller then my original one.... So how the hell would it fit anyhow if the holes for where to bolt the rails onto are too far apart? Would i need to get a custom bracket made up for the seat/car and if so where would i get this done?

Oh and the seat isnt a particular make... has no name, pretty nice though...... cheap to......

any help?

cheers

I had this sort of problem once ... the width of the Bucket seat wouldnt fit in my car and had to sell it .... :(

If the seat itself actually fits you can get custom rails made and it will fit easily.

So what your saying is im going to have to sell the seat? there isnt a way of getting custom brackets up seeing as the seat is too small could the brackets that are made. be made to stick out?

Does some one know a good anwser to my problem...

i would like a bride but i cant justify paying that much for a seat..... no way..... Plus i really do like the seat ive bought.....

there is always a way to do it mate its just having the will to do it.

i would consult a proffesional view tho if youve got no idea how to

@cooch....... Basically the actual seat itself it to narrow so even with the rails they provided it wouldn't reach both sides of where the seat bolts down to..... It would definitely need new rails on but does anyone know who to go to? Never heard of a place that specializes with these things... also what price am i looking at?

@Adam..... Yeah mate there is a way as its just metal with bolts... problem is at the moment there definitely isnt a way with the rail ive got.... or the original rail as the seat is still too narrow..... needs one made up... only way about it really.....

OR i drill my own hols in the ground of the chassis and bolt them down to that? Would anyone recommend doing this?

You could do that if your bucket seat has a subframe and runners on it already, and you would need to use Big thick washers on the bolts so you don't wreck the floor pan.

At the moment me and my mate are fitting some S2 escort recaros to the standard starlet runners, but we have had to cut the old seat off the runner and weld metal plates onto the runners, then drill holes in that to fit the recaro to. so far the passenger one is done, but its a proper nightmare to do.

yeah i know the fuckin runners would NOT come off the bloody seat... you need to drill or angle grind the buggers out...... I dont weld or no anyone personally that does to save me some £££.......

When i got some time i will try and mark out where i could position the runners and see about drilling some holes ..... yeah will use some hefty screws.....

Still you dont know anyone that specializes in making brackets up as another option in case my plan fails to work?

can't say I know anyone really mate, I'm in the trade anyway so I have a mig welder at work and just found a couple of bit of flat metal, but as said it is a pain, it took 4 house to get it right :(

right if you buy bride or zep seat rails they are universal, and you seat can be wider or thinner than the standard one, if i had a pic to show you of one it would be easy

Are you using an aftermarket seat rail?
If so, Use 2 bits of flat bar, to go from one side of the rail to the other, this then gives you the mounting place, for the seat.

If you arnt using an aftermarket rail, then sorry, ive not a clue.

@Rory......... yeah i am using a universal frame which is a load of shit to be honest.... its hardly universal.... hasnt got any settings or anything... just one rail and thats it....

@SXturbo... thanks alot mate... so this is what i need... i see all the different mounting options it comes with.... whos sells these... TOBY?

nope not like the above... its absolutely shite....

They gave me "literally" two rails that are completely straight, no kinks or anything on the end to actually bolt down to my floor pan which you'd know angles down on the starlets..... and some bolts :homer:

Looks nothing like the Zep one.... ive got a quarter of the what that provides... I can see that working to be honest...... Would like confirmation that would work before buying it though... £130 just for a rail.... this seats turned out to be not soo cheap :flame:

worth buying the correct rail. I wouldnt fancy being involved in any sort of shunt and ending up out througgh the windscreen with the seat following you.

but what is the correct rail mate?

the seat is an unknown make soo my only option is to buy a universal one... Do you think the Zep rail would be suitable.... ?

sorry man I meant something like the zep rail. I wouldnt be trying to botch something and screw it to the floor etc. The zep one looks like it has lots of mounting options with those brackets and at least you know it is bolted to the correct position in the car and wont fall to bits on impact, god forbid!

Ahh i see.....

I completely see your point mate.... i'd end up out the window with the seat if i left it up for me to redrill some holes lol...

Who sells these....?

Toby or dave??
