Hey All

Basicly in the future im planning to do a rebuild on a 4E motor but would like some information on who's used what pistons and rods etc? and where you bought them from and how much etc? and also do all forged rods require the block to be machined out?

Many Thanks for any help guys.

nope, pauters clear the stock block dimensions, and to be honest scat rods only need a notching to clear, as you know mate, im running weiscos with a 10cc drop (74.5mm) and scat rods, no problems here, 2000 miles in and mapped, running 1.3bar on the road, (1.2bar on the dyno).

Sweet steve thanks for clearing the block issue out i cant afford pauter rods but im guessing any machine shop can do it, how much needs notching out? and how much did they take out of your block steve?

Cheers

I'm running Pauter rods (try Speedvision), Ross pistons (74.5mm), Cruise valve springs (£90 RHD Japan), Speedvision headgasket.

Running 1.4 bar.

A lot of forged pistons are supposed to rattle on cold start, which I also get. Drivetrain is a bit noisey now, more than before. Doesnt bother me thou, cant be heard while driving and is running sweet with no issues.

i'm going for the wiseco or ross stuff in mine, they do them in the standard size as well

one q, if i buy the wiseco or ross pistons in 74mm, do i need the block rebored, or just honed?

Depending on bore condition mate, if bores are ok then a hone is all thats needed but if bores are worn slightly it would require boring out to the next size (74.5mm)

would like to know your price lists sx,
as pistons are roughly same price for wiseco and ross ones,
so the only extra cost i would need is for the rods at about another 300 if i go for the 74mm items, as it wont need reboring, and that is the only 2 items different

I used to bring in JE Pistons for the 4E/5E but now I prefer buying from Arias. Rods, I usually bring in Pauter or Carillo.

pistons from toyota are 33.45 each+vat, add the piston rings (complete set) they cost 61.74+vat

those prices are retail. i get 10% off those.

the head bolts from dealer are £35.58

and the headset costs £95 (thats for a ADL blueprint one)

We dont see any Arias pistons over here, are they available easy enough? wouldnt mind getting a price on them.

And the pistons are the same price as toyota ones but depends what you want your engine for as forged pistons need looking after, you must let the engine completely warm up before giving any boost as you get alot of piston slap.

I order directly from Arias. Matter of fact, I just got a call today to order a set. Around US$ 690.00.
