as above I would check the compression if you can just to put your mind at rest, wouldn't expect smoke to be coming out of the catch can though tbh
any garage can do it, you can buy the kits from halfords to do it yourself, ive never done one. Its a 10min job really. I beleive you take the spark plugs out and drop the sensor or what ever it is in and it will give you the reading.
if its screwed it will be a big job.
Not sure on what the compression ratio should be tho for each cylinder, think its about 145 or something.
You getting any smoke out of the exhuast?
how much oil did you put in? may have a tad too much if your lucky?

do a compression test
sounds to me like u may have loads of blowby which usually indicates worn rings or broken ring lands, keep you fingers crossed and see what the compression is like across the cylinders
