seat belt warning

The seat belt warning light comes on when I wear my seatbelt and goes off when I take it off! Wierd eh?! Does this really matter in a crash? Not that I'm planning to crash but you never know! What might cause this?

I haven't touched anything electrical or mechanical so its nothing I've touched, just came on randomly. If I pull the seatbelt out slowly the warning light stays off.

it will do no harm but....check the plugs below your seats and that, prob something loose at a guess!!!!!

I'm facing the same problem, but I wasn't able to find a plug or any cabling under the driver's seat.
Am I missing something? :S

i would be worried that the airbags would possibly not deploy if the seatbelt light is on?

the airbags + seatbelts are connected in the same circuit and get tripped if the seatbelt stalk is stretched too far.

if the sensors not working could there be a chance it wont work?

just a thought but i would personally try get it sorted

i had no sensors under my seat, the seatbelt light im almost certain that the sensor is where the belt comes out from behind the door if u pull on the belt, the light normaly goes out.

Yup there's a plug for the sensor on the a pillar.

I don't think it will make a difference to the airbags though, its just a light to remind you to put it on, there's not a sensor for the passenger belt yet theres a passenger airbag (in 97-99 glanza's). I don't think its connected to the airbags.

I couldn't find anything at the pillar either

I took off the plastic at the upper part (over the shoulder), as well as the side plastic of the rear seats. I could see at the bottom some cabling, but I couldn't spot any wires connected to the seat belt mechanism. I can barely access anything down there though

When I put the seatbelt on, I have the light flashing. If i pull it 10cm further, it stops. Weird! Gaining 20Kg is not an answer to my problem though :)

Taking the gauges cluster out and removing the seatbelt indication bulb, is a 5 minute job :)

But yet I'd rather spend some more time and fix this issue...if possible

Lol, yea i know and i had the guage cluster out at least 5 times since it started happening, just keep forgetting about it as it doesn't bother me anymore. I'll sort it some day it's just at the end of a very long list of things to do.

Lately the passenger's seat belt warning light started having the same behavior!
When the passenger puts on his seat belt, the seat belt light starts flashing.
If he pulls the belt a bit further, sometimes it stops. Sometimes works fine right away.
This is getting annoying!
I located the connector of the seat belt in the pillar, at floor's level.
I was unable to properly access it, but I made sure it was plugged.
Also I noticed that the wires on the plug, are yellow colored. This means it has to do with the airbags' circuit :(
Weird situation!

Last time I had issues with warning lights, it was the ABS light. It stayed on, and ABS stopped working. I finally discovered that this was due to burnt stoplight bulbs and disabling me the ABS, it was a method of warning me! So this situation begins to worry me.

Could this random seat belts lights' behavior mean something else?

When any weight, a bag or person is on the passenger seat of my car. The seatbelt light flashes in my car!!!

Any ideas? The weight must do something to the sensor I reckon.

Strange thing though the driver's seatbelt receiver was removed when I got the car, any ideas on why someone would do this? Just seemed strange that the belt was there and no receiver.

Maybe its bluetooth lol.

These type of switches and lights usually work by connecting one side of the switch down to earth. You could have a short in the wiring or a bad connection, i would say it is a short caused by the wires insulation going to the switch being damaged and touching the body work somewhere. This can be caused by vibration.

If there are no wires coming out from under your seat to the seat itself, then the switch will be in the seatbelt mechanism in the b pillar.

Does the light change when you plug/unplug the belt or when the belt moves backwards and forwards?

The seatbelt warning system and the airbag system are seperate.

This means that the airbag will go off even if you don't have a seatbelt on. not a pretty situation to be in. Always belt up if there is an airbag in front of you.
