TGTT forum is dead on my side?

on the dutch starlet forum we just use regular topics as showroom topics and they get a lot of updates, ppl read the ma lot, reply a lot.

so it might be an idea to just add a section like the chill out room but call it showroom and let the peeps fill it up with their cars.
you also get a good idea who is activly modding their car and when a question pops up it usually gets answered in the showroom topic itself.

good idea

That's how it used to be on here and is a simple solution, just a new sub forum for members cars, surely easy to implement?

I liking what I'm hearing chaps.

Thinking of opening a Members Cars forum in a prominent spot on the board then everyone has the choice of either starting a fresh thread on their car or copying and pasting from the garage section.

Would probably leave the garage module running as is so all it's content would still be accessible.

Does that sound like what is needed?

Also liking the idea of an active members cars area that cross-references with the Tech sections on a regular basis as Rage describes. Intergrating both areas would do a lot of good in the long run..

keeping the old garage section does sound usefull. tons of pictures/info in there and probably from a lot of inactive members that won't know or won't bother to create a new showroom. but it might be an idea to lock the section so no new topics can be opened?

I think we could have both running for a bit side by side. Just to measure activity if nothing else. Would let people have the choice too, a lot of work has gone into setting some of those garage threads up and I'd hate to block updates.

Here's a good question, our current garage is restricted to Paid Members, always has been on this version of the TGTT board. Is it fair to keep this as an incentive for supporting the site? Or should we be seeking to recapture the environment of the earlier TGTT boards where this was completely open to all?

Personally I wouldn't like to see it restricted to paid members only. I take the view that it's a 2 way street, paid members will also benefit from seeing what non paid members are doing with their cars, so preventing non paid members from sharing is taking something away from the members that support the site.

It's nice to receive some benefit in return for paying a member subscription, but on the other hand I don't believe that's the way to go about it. If someone likes and benefits from TGTT.com enough they are likely to support it and keep it live by means of a paid subscription, placing restrictions on certain areas of the site that are lifted when a member pays money seems to me to go against the whole point of TGTT.com, 'IF' trader fees generate enough revenue to cover the hosting fees then I don't see why unpaid member restrictions would be necessary?

Glad to say I'm of the same opinion Terry.

Naturally we'd restrict viewing to registered members to add a little safety from prying eyes but otherwise a free to use policy looks like the road forward.

The paid membership side of things needs a little refining I feel. Paying for access to key areas of the site is prohibitive and in some ways a control mechanism. I'd prefer that anyone supporting the site is doing it for the right reasons but that's a topic for another time.

Anyone got any other suggestions, concerns or views?

You have no idea what we had to cope with back in the hey day Colin lol. Nowadays we'd get a page or two of threads to read and moderate. Back then we were seeing fifteen to twenty pages a day and most of it was BS.. God bless Facebook for removing most of the crap!

It has gone real quiet lately even compared to when I realy started using the forum 2 or 3 years ago. I find that when asking technical advice get the same few people replying all the time not that that's a bad thing or anything.. maybe ye could make it so that only paid members can post for sale threads might be an idea

Too many lurkers

Says the lurker lol..

Regards making the sales section paid I'll refer to my earlier statement on key areas. If I was looking to raise funds or kill the forum dead it would do one of the two. As it stands we are looking to enhance matters so I'd prefer to remain free to view.

Hope that makes sense,

Jay

i would still support the site with the yearly fee even if everything was free. but i doubt that counts for most peeps.

Looking forward to the forum modifications if they happen :)

Everyone will be glad to know that pretty much the entire TGTT site is free to use now that we have shifted the Members Cars back into the forum board : CLICKY

How's that for value for money? Paid members still retain rights to the avatars and signatures which should be fair and reasonable.

So all that remains is for me to start raising threads begging for spare change. I need a dolla, dolla, a dolla is what I need... :haha:
