No jokes, there is a fair amount of shit advice being handed out recently.

Yeah just by a FCD and let it creep til kingdom come...thats a great idea!

OR....do the proper thing, port the wastegate, reinstall original cat / airbox as a TEMPORARY measure to stop engine damage, restrict intake/exhaust.

I saw a thread and someones suggestion was "just fit an FCD" (I may be paraphrasing, but it was words to that effect). I thought most people on here had enough about them to know that an FCD on its own is a recipe for disaster.

Sure you can run an FCD, you can even get them to run safely :p (True)

But there's probably too much temptation to wack the boost up, a little, or a little more. Or your wastegate hose splits and you're running 20psi without realizing - I'd give it two or three blasts on a CT9. It'd be like me throwing pre-lit white spirit down the intake :p

I think it's more the concept. If an owners running an FCD then you know they're not really interested in 'modifying' their car properly.

his high and low are not connected.

if he simply just takes the decat off, and puts the standard cat back on, it will be fine.

either that or port the waste gate, or place a restrictor in the exhaust

nothing wrong with fcd's providing you have the correct mods to run it safely.

i must admit i do not agree with just getting an fpr and fcd, then leaving it, that seems a bit caveman like and silly, as it's far from ideal.

now if they got a piggy back fuel controller, to go with the fcd and rrfpr, then that makes sense.

unfortunately not everyone can afford luxuries of emanage blue etc etc, but APEXI S-AFC's can be picked up so cheap now there really isnt any excuse not to spend that little bit extra for better fuelling.

sounds like your getting boost creep liek everyone says.

2 choices buy a HKS act and turn boost down.
or FCD.

AntGlanza, can I just ask who you managed to get insured with on a Glanza at 17 and the same for your Impreza at 17. Others on the sight would love to know.

Is it just me or does that actuator not look like a stock one? doesnt look quite right to me, looks more like the JAM Actuator but might be just me, also try fitting the stock airbox and see how you get on, might give it enough restriction to get off fuel cut.

Cheers

just you the jam and TOM'S actuators look identical to stock,

I feel like im in a time warp lol. This is just the like the threads years ago about "porting wastegates"

Are you interested in gaining performance or just running the car? If your not interested in making more power just whack the standard cat back on. If your looking for power, your on the slippery slope to a never ending story and credit card applications :p:p:p

I am interested in just having a nice reliabel car tbh , but i am willing to spend this little bit extra to get it running right, problem is i dont have the old parts as i bought the car as is,

i.e
  • i dont have a down pipe with cat
  • i dont have a standard airbox
  • i dont have a standard exhaust

I am spending £685 on this major service and other mods im getting done to get the car running sweet and i get to take advantage of the existing mods, i think thats quite reasonable long term so its worth doing for me... i may start modding in the future but right now a useable car would be nice :)
