lol Dan they must be good for you to say that!!! What are you using on the back standard??

yea,i domnt facny leaving it till the last minuet to go from 130 to 40 lol stock brakes on the back just new pads

really? what pads are you using?

im not 100% sure as i got them with the calipers but they might be TRD ones as the GT4 the guy was breaking was pretty highly modded and the pads where basically new.

i'll let you know how i get on with the ferodo racing ds2500 elaine, but my car seems to be off the road more times than than a whores knickers drop to the floor.

but so far they seem ok ( the 5 times i've driven with them )

have you thought about a cusco master cylinder stopper, i put one on my car, and it seems to have made the pedal a bit stiffer.

but so far in my experiance maybe a brake upgrade will be worth while

I have already made my mind up about what I am going to do just need to sort a few other bits out first

mcleod your 100% right over kill or not I think its better to be safe than sorry :)

IMO, there is over kill when it comes to brakes, especially on the street where you are talking about saving lifes.

You dont want brakes locking up and you want the pads to work efficently when cold.

my first trackday was with 3g discs and mintex 1144 pads and 330 degree c dry boiling point brake fluid(fresh)

a couple of laps they started over heating and were the major weak point of the car.

next trackday i had daves 3g kit, and it was a massive improvement with same 1144 pads and fresh fluid as above.

my car easily outbroke everything, and the time i was gaining doing this was unbeleivable.

there was a styker race car out that day, i was outbraking him aswell.

if your gonna do a good few trackdays next year, defo go for bigger brakes.

its a great feeling when you just stamp on the brakes as hard as you can doing just over 100mph for a hairpin, and not have to worry about if your brakes will be cooked the next time you need to do it.there was no chance i could do that corner after corner with the standard size brake setup

Can vouch for the 3G Big Brake conversion i have it on mine and just do not get brake fade even on the 2 track days simply endless braking power :)

i had regular run of the mill slotted rotors and 1166 mintex pads, was awesome when i first got them but soon i started out braking them. Upgraded to 4 pot wilwoods with yellow stuff pads, yup they take a couple of brakes to get the up to op temp but are a damm great brake combo and i am amazed at how much of an improvement they are over my previous setup. I custom made them with 288 rotors and fitted them under some 15's, however due to the huge calpers i had to run large spacers.

Would look into running a caliper that wasnt that thick (4 pots) so that i wouldnt have to run 30mm spacers. But the spacers have helped handling !! :)

will post up a track vid in next post.

brakes save lives theres no such thing as overkill. i have 4 pots and ive never been to a track.

Thats not true exactly best brakes that suit you cars is fine. But you must have a correct size caliper and disc. To big disc or to powerfull caliper and you run the risk of uncontrolable brakeing. Where they are simply off or locking the front wheels.
The main problem isn't stopping power here it is fade and in most cases a more track style pad is all that is needed.

Try brake ducting first. If that isn't enough, add full racing pads to the picture (Ferodo DS3000 for example).

I was always desperatly wanting a bigger brake kit, but Ben has adviced me otherwise as i dont like the thought of having excessive big brakes on and locking up too easily.

I think i will stick with the setup we had on the K24 GT which was grooved and dimpled dics, braided lines, and yellow stuff pads and obviously good fluid. Worked a treat.

I know of one for sure ;)

With regard to brakes, i've seen a set of 3G discs that cracked after being on track, thats only one set though... Know of people running EBC discs/yellowstuff pads and this setup was fine on track with no fade :)

Yeah, a lot of people I've known use them and say they are shit. In fact, you could say they were "pants".

anyone got pictures of mods they did ?
thinking of a 4 inch flexi tube that comes from the spot light locations (ep91) to the back of the brake cooling plate, then getting a hole drilled and a lip put on the plate to hold the tube in place.

Aye, the key to extra cooling is all in the foglamps!

Here's all I did to sort my fading issues out, well worth ten minutes of anyone's time:

Nothing but plastic in the way:

Remove and cast aside:

Perfect:

Straight to the point:

Car was an EP80 with GT front bumper and brakes fitted. I didn't expect to notice any difference at all. Quite surprised!
