Even with a bolt in it will be much much better, anyone who has been in our no2 will confirm this. Had a full weld in multipoint FIA cage in no1 and no2 had an 8 point Cusco bolt in, not the silly blue show one but the black one. I can see where you are coming from but it will alow less flex than no cage. I actually welded a few points but most were left, amazing little car.

Not actually sure on stock rates, maybe 2.5kg front and 2 kg front rear. Not a lot that's for sure but I always bin the stock shocks unless it's just a stock run around. As long as you get some good FIA padding on the cage it shouldn't be a problem but it's defo something to consider good man. Don;t get the non FIA as it's not fire proof and turns in lava. I use the stuff from demon tweeks which is huge, doesn't look as good but protects you, you could hit your head on the window or the frame just as much but completely know where you are coming from. It also hikes insurance premiums and has to be declared.

For the track needed 100% for rigidity and safety. Once you've been in one fully caged with good bushes all round, attention to detail in every area then you will be shocked.

"Are you a racing driver" Dan (Starlet3sgte) asks me, "No" I reply, I just know how to make a Starlet handle! :haha:

2.5 kg and 2kg is very low (will work tht out to lb's)

As far as cage padding goes, doesnt work, not on a cage with someone not wearing a helmet, cage padding is designed to take the impact from a helmet not a skull!

I would say the higher kg/lb rate of the springs the thinner the arb's need to be as the springs and dampers will then be taking the forces and also a too thick a arb will cause too much load on the inside tyre!

In the UK we have a very liberal attitude with cages, for e.g D1 legislation allows no bolt in cages. In Japan you can, they invented D1 ironic eh!

I've had a few crashes in the UK in caged cars with no helmets and been fine, imo you have just as much chance of hitting the window. I've been knocked out twice by windows. So many variables as always. The biggest depicting factor is seat selection and harnesses, using stock seats with a cage is a big no no, buckets with good harnesses will hold you in place but you could argue both until blue in the face each person needs to make their own decision. I can assure you roll cages are not dangerous in a road car with the right measures in place, I would rather crash in a fully caged Starlet with proper bucket seats and harnesses than a non caged Starlet where you could quite easily smash your head on the metal framwork of the car, what would you rather hit, padding or metal frame?

This is our fast road Starlet for occasional track use but mostly road use, we removed alot of the padding for the photo shoot as it didn't look "cool" enough for the magazine. It was very OTT, looked a bit crap but kept it as safe as could be. With a stock seat it would be dangerous that goes without saying.

Our KP61 RWD Starlet had the most appalling padding, was more a rubber sheet than padding. This was the only padding available for many years which is why they got bad names. If you don't think it's safe then don't use, if you do then do etc. If you want your Starlet to be up there with the best handling monsters then its a decision you have to make. Loads of articles on this, many have been saved by cages on the road, some have been more injured due to a cage but it's down to theseats they are using that just don't fit the bill.

With the correct measures in place I would rather crash with one than without these cars are made of tin and are very dangerous but again depends on what your looking for and everyone has different opinions that's just mine, doesn't mean it's right.

Tein S Tech spring rates are 2.7kg front and 2.4kg rear, check out the site, the super street coilovers are only 3kg and 2.5kg so I would hazard a guess that stock rates are near these they are pretty soft.

Don't forget these are very light cars you may be used to heavier cars, pretty sure my STi wagon is only 4.5kg front and 3.5kg rear. Our KP61 is 14kg all round, track only but again you can't have the best of both. Bounces on the road, will sticks like glue on a track! :)

(In a deep voice) The decision, is yours!..... who said that anyway?

front arb is bigger than stock - however your unable to find the bushes for them anywhere as they dont make them.
you can only get trd bushes for the standard arb.

if you measure your old bushes powerflex do a bush that will fit.
