Theres a lad in cork that myself and dave know thats doing a b18 turbo conversion in a ek civic, looking for 500+ bhp apparently. Isnt there a problem with the block cracking due to running high boost

used to have a civic jodan with the b16a2 engine alot of members turbo'd them on the owners club with great results if you want more information on the b18c engine look for a trader on ebay called integrastella sells skunk2 stuff he knows his stuff and always happy to answer questions. if you want to keep the ek at 300hp the b16b engine will do you just fine. but maybe a better option to work with for more than 300hp would be the b18
hope this helps

With the list of modified cars you have had, I'm sure they do allready:p

True the B16 is a work of art one of the best N/A engines ever made

Dont the civic have a alloy block making them weakish for boost aplications, my mate looked into it and said that in the usa they reinforce the blocks before charging them.
Obviasly theres alot more to it, but something to look into.
Turbo hondas are amazing tho, why not supercharge?

In a couple of years when im done with the gt, im going to do a k20 in a eg civic but not sure whether to turbo or supercharge it, there is a serious problem with the block cracking running over 1.5bar of boost on a turbo such as a gt28r, theres something you must do to prevent this but i forget the name of it.

ill look into it gally, sounds like a nice project although id have the power delivery of the b18 over the k20 anyday!dc5 are seriously overrated imo,the eg civic is slick:)

thanks for the info lad,ill look into that for sure

supercharge?what sort of gains would i be looking with that and i cant find any kits?looked ages ago

Youd get similar gains to a turbo really, try searching for jacksonracing honda they make supercharger kits alot less hassle as they dont need oil feed/returns ect so you done have to worry about new housings on the filer and sump ect. all youll need it a supercharger/bracket to mount it and a belt.
Obviasly engine managment but im sure you ecu could be mapped to suit a charger.
They will be alot more detail on the honda forums, try some integra sites too, there a more hardcore bunch:p

yea ill try some integra sites, response from ek9 sites are lots of moaning saying keep the b16b in original form, but it needs boost badly!!ill google jackson racing cheers

In my opinion the B16A is one of the best engines Honda has ever made!! It can definately be supercharged or turbocharged!! But...I'd suggest you go a different way!!
Swop the block with a heavy duty SPOON block - it's awesome...has sharper blades 'an everything!! Would rev like crazy!!
Also...with regards to turbocharging it - I've seen a feature on Japanese Performance where this guy got 450bhp out of his B16....AWESOME!!

yes geoff, the spoon 11k rpm block has been discontinued:( i looked into that also, and it wasnt that expensive when in production for what it was....i the b18 would be best though as that would allow for less lag due to its higher displacement

me and my mate was speakin to maz at honda r, and he was sayin its a bad idea to turbo the ek9, as my mate was looking at doing it with his, best thing is either spend sum cash and do it up NA, or slam a b18 from the teg in there dude. but he said the engine wont last long boosted, which is true in my experence, my mates plowed some serious cash into his turbo'd b16a,hes had 2 enigne rebuilds, skunk 2 cams, bigger injectors, forged pistons, ect ect all the internals upgraded, if your gonna do it you gotta have some serious cash to do it propa! or it will just f##k up. pardon my french lol

if it was me dont boost it! keep it NA just like it was intended to be!
