I agree with corofin just incase it is rings compression test is quick n easy..yeh i would do jus make sure you let it warm up n cool down after driving as you do normally avoid slamming your foot down tho lol.n no worries anytime fella

i suggest you do a compression test to rule out worn piston rings.. then you can think about turbo oil seals

but if i have just had the turbo off and had no problems before would you not think it would be more systematic to check that first? it has only done 50k
also would i then not have to take it to a garage?

noone knows tho mate im afraid... id do it anyway 2 rule it out and for peace of mind... if its turbo oil seals you have 2 choices... rebuild it or the easier option is 2 pick up a good cheap second hand turbo..

aww what i thought by turbo seals he ment the oil turbo cool pipe not the internals, it was treated carefully like. i will get a compression test done then.
on the black aprox 1in size pipe held with two bolts (sorry dont know what its for, intercooler or oil?) the gasket didnt look to great could hat cause the problem? i cant see any leaks when left running tho?

see if i did get a new turbo what would you suggest i got if i wanted to uprate it but keep reliability, dont rili want to have to replace engine internals. thanks for your help mate

My GT gives out puffs of white smoke and the very odd puff of blue. Has been doing that since I got her all of two years ago! If its jus a little puff I wouldent worry mate;)

ahh ok its just because it never did it before thats all :( you got a manifold and decat too?

yeah al drive it carefully n check the oil levels too, probz a good idea. u wouldn't happen to know what the bolt hole in the decat is for do you? am not sure if its lambda or exhaust temp

corofins right u should check compression first for sure, but also a decat and manifold quite commonly makes the turbo shit itself, happens all the time, and it sounds just like the turbo. and mines just done the exact same lol

cool did ponder about that for a bit lol cheers for your help mate, al get a compression test done soon, hope it doesn't damage it in the mean time.

thanks again mate

no bother at all man.. no harm ruling out piston rings anyway plus its a good test 2 do if your planning on upping the boost... just remember the turbos are old and can just give up the ghost from time to time

ya mate, I had a little bit more smoke directly after fitting mine too, I just wonder if its that the turbo is operating a bit better and its dislodging some grime that otherwise would have just stayed stuck as is! I think people are over-reacting a bit in this thread!!!! Check your oil levels regularily and see if shes using alot of oil, if she is then ya seals could be shot, though at 49000miles I doubt it! As for pistons shot at 49000...on standard boost...I seriously doubt it! Is the car drving well, still pulling hard?

on another note my v and most 4efte's throw out white smoke when cold.. these engines run rich so will happen especially with free flowing exhausts and de-cat and on warm idle sometimes it blows some blue smoke.. happens alot of cars on here...

ahh ok yeah could be that moving it around when taking it off could loosen grime aswell, thats what am thinking it that mileage all that should be fine, yeah still pulls hard and quicker throttle response from the manifold and decat just the smoke rili. its dropped like 0.1 bar boost thats the only change i can see, ut could that not be from removing the dcat and reducing back pressure?

ok i will leave it for now then and just keep an eye on it i think. i would rather not spend any more on it at the moment. cheers for the help guys:)

The flange with two bolts on it your refering to is commonly called the "hot pipe" basically a black pipe that directs the charged air through the intercooler. Your problem is nothing to do with that though!

If it's blue smoke then it's oil (don't know if you already know that) so keep your oil level checked regularly.

To be honest, its probably nothing thats going to get any worse overnight, so dont worry too much about it, it may be that when the cat was on it was hiding the problem.

Sounds like its a worn oil seal in the turbo, even though its only done quite low mileage, there's no telling how it was treated in Japan.

CT9's can be picked up fairly cheaply so even if you went down that route, it's not going to cost you too dearly.

Not sure if the CT9B can be fitted to a GT, which is a shame as i'll be selling mine soon as its getting swapped out for a TD04 :)
