Took my exhaust mani off and looked at the valve steams, should they show shiny bits of metal and a slight bit of oil on the steam when 2 of the pistons are down like the pic below or should they be no oil at all and no shiny bits like on the pic below

Sorry for the bad pic, I don't have my camera on me just phone,, its a pic looking through the exhaust mani hole and you can see the steam I was wondering for those who have seen them looking through these holes before does it look normal or not?

well i can't see much of a problem but to be honest you really can't tell if your valve stem seals are in bad order unless its smoking, but the valve has to be lubricated in some way otherwise the valve would cease to the guide.

Ok if I look closely you can see a small amount of oil on a couple of the steams, surely they should be no oil if the steam seals were completely sealed?

i can't really see it like i said there not brilliant pics, if your car isn't showing the simptems i wouldn't worry about it. but like i said, there has to be some oil to lubricate the valve and the guide.
if the car is showing no sign of smoking and has been stood for a little while then a little oil may pass the stem seal but its not something i would worry about.

The shiney bit is the valve stem itself, nothing builds up on the bits that go inside the stems. Its hard to see how much oil there is from those pics, if you take the photo from a bit further away with a torch shining up the port then we will be able to see if there is a big problem or not.

never mind mate, you have plenty of time to give that engine bay a good scrub now and get it white again!
