It's a positive crankcase ventilator, basically if it's blocked the car will smoke. Remove it and if the smoke is still there then it's not this, it's quite un-common for it to become blocked but it can happen.

As above could be turbo exhaust seals, remove the cat/decat and see if there is oil dripping from the turbo. If the oil leaks into a hot exhaust system then it will burn the oil and produce white smoke, if it's mixing with water then blue but this is usually down to engine wear, also do a CR test just to make sure...

Does it smoke on cold start up or only when warm? It won't be the PCV this would smoke all the time regardless. If only when warm then I would say turbo seals exhaust side but best to check all varaibles first :)

As an engine runs, gases from the cylinders leak past the piston's sealing rings into the crankcase (containing the crankshaft and other parts). This leaked gas is sometimes referred to as "blow by" because the pressure within the cylinders "blows" them "by" the piston rings. These gases include compounds harmful to an engine, particularly hydrocarbons (unburned fuel), as well as carbon dioxide and water vapor. If allowed to remain in the crankcase, or become too concentrated, the harmful compounds will condense out of the air within the crankcase and form corrosive acids and sludge on the engine's interior surfaces. This can harm the engine as it tends to clog small inner passages, causing overheating, poor lubrication, and high emissions levels. To keep the crankcase air as clean as possible, some sort of ventilation system must be present.

Its located between the Inlet manifold and the rocker cover, only costs about £20 to replace too.Stopped my old car smoking like a bastard when idle, as i suspected it was turbo seals...

Part numbers:
90480-18006 = PCV valve Grommet
12204-10040 = PCV valve

Worth a shot surely?

Sure is look at the cheap things first, if you've removed the rocker then you could have possible damaged the seal or valve itself check her out when you can. if someone posts a picture of an engine bay I can circle it, or Dave/Chomp etc..

There we go good man Chomp, was going to say your TMIC is in the way but Dave did it for me  They become very brittle over time so check her out to see if there is any damage. Report back when you can.

be careful when removing the grommet, they become brittel and most the time break when being removed if it is old.
