i want to start building a track car at the start of next year, wont have alot to spend on it,over time 6k MAX all in.

was thinking a mini with a 2ltr redtop engine, as mini's can be picked up from 1200 with no rott!

would love a bike engined one but thats abit out of budget tbh.

want it to be cheap to fix parts, good handeling for cheap.

its purely a track car wont be road legal.

ideas so far..

mini 2litre, nova 2litre,

id love a starlet but thatd cost far to much, since ive just bought a new car
i dont want to go mad on another car.

..... long term project (year maybe)

fun and safe-ish.

let me know of any ideas,or anything you have seen or have vids off that were fun, ect.

any thoughts welcome.

Aaron,....been thinkin for days and want more opinions.

Track Car

An MX5 fits your spec.Handles extremely well in stock form, cheap to buy.cheap to run and very easily modified.Parts and performance mods in abindance and they are sensibly priced. Can't wait until Sunday when i'll be on track again in my MX5.

looked at both of them mark, very nice cars, need the gt's sold before i can consider a track car.

a gt would cost to much in all id imagine.

id end up spending tomuch on it.

a mini or pug seems good.

mini with a redtop should be quick enough

Aaron, a Mini with a redtop would cost enough.
The Vauxhall lump would be good fun, but would lose the mini handling, with the engine being to heavy.

205 Gti is the way forward for cheap trackdays.

how about a metro? Start with a Gti as a base with front and rear anti roll bars, dampers and updated hydro cans as standard. There are so many cheap handling mods to make it like it's on rails! Then engine wise you have a wide variety...143 VVC, 160vvc, 1.8 turbo and one guy on the metro forum has a supercharged kit on a 1.8 and is running 200bhp+. An mgtf rear subframe will fit in the front and give you coilovers. Plenty of vids on YouTube showing just how fast they can be, search supercharged metro or metro VVC. There is even a video of a 143vvc with only breathing mods beating a scooby at Santa pod in almost 14 seconds flat! Search google vids for reyland metro and you might find a long vic of it toting with big power cosworths

My 155bhp 1.8 destroyed a cammed, stripped corsa red top.

You won't get more bang for your buck!

MX-5. Great fun and could definitely come in within your budget....unless you decided to add a turbo, in which case the budget might need stretching a bit.

106 Rallye S1 with 1.6 16v in it from the GTI.
Great handling as standard can be made better. wont bust the bank either and looks cool.

If you like the mini's, why not consider a VTEC mini?

Cheap, reliable and fast N/A power...

That rear axle if you listen to anyone else. Good job I don't listen isn't it! :D

Is the rear axle that bad jay on the starlet?

I would personally go for that dimma kitted Mi16 106 ,but if you wanna stick to toyota why not fit a 4age engine in an aygo (would find a cheap write off)its light and it handles like a go cart so it could make a good track car

Id say go for either the VTEC mini idea which sounds class or maybe a supercharged saxo vts, im not sure bout the costs but i remember reading that a member on here had one and it had over 200whp which id say could go well in a saxo and the wee things can handle well too.
