Whats the problem/damage done?

Going on what you have said if your oil level has gone that low for a number of months you will definately have some bottom end damage even if its just scored big end shells, did you notice any knocking noises?

If your getting oil out of the breather then you have blow by meaning either you have one or more cracked piston ringlands or knackered ring(s) but ringlands is more likely.

How many miles have you done over the past 6 months?

As suggested do a compression test and let us know the results eitherway it aint going to be a cheap fix....

Garanteed piston failure.
My next question being, or your next question should be, "How has the piston let go?"
They dont just let go if the oil level gets a bit low ;)

For ringlands to go (assuming it is them) its either a lean mixture or det. Seen it with my own eyes on a wiseco piston!

As for your oil level being bone dry, thats because its all over the bay and the fact a forged unit does use more oil the a std motor.

Whys that Ricky?

cos low oil dont break piston rings or ring lands,

det and lean mixture does, and thats not your fault.

generally speaking the oil level has to be below minimum to ruin the pistons and rings, but if this was the case the bearings in the bottom end and the turbo woulb have been fucked first

Speaking of Detonation,

Can someone explain the term to me as I'm still unsure of it!

Thanks for the help, Sorry If I Spammed.

Det and a lean mixture are caused by a bad tune though aren't they Ricky? Mine was mapped by a reliable and knowledgeable dude, haven't heard anything bad about Nick.

I haven't had it compression tested yet, they guy with the tester keeps forgetting to bring it to work.

This is the 2nd time my engine has shat itself in the 5 or so years I've owned it though, and I don't rag it everywhere.

if your car was mapped, say on a day which was really cold, for example it was road mapped, as you say 6 or so months ago, so lets say february, 10 degrees air temp, and your car was mapped for 1.4 bar, but nick has went for a not dangerous map, but he's pushed it, to get that extra few horses.

then you run your car in the summer, at 25-28 degrees air temperature, this itself cause knocking.

by no means am i sayin this is what happened, as i dont know the mapper nor the map, nor am i particularly clued up with cars, but this is one possible scenario.

there are plenty of reasons why it could have gone.

but untill you do a compression test, there isnt much point in adding anything more to this thread.

I am quite surprised no one as pointed out yet that over heating is also a big cause of piston failure? has it nipped and caused the damage? the oil also acts as a coolant low oil means higher engine temps! you can have a temp gauge showing normal and the engine temp been too high the temp gauge sender is stuck in a alu housing at the far end of the block behind the fan how can that give a true engine temp??
also has it been bore washed faulty injector?? there are lots of things that can cause this sort of symptom.
I must say tho if it was mine it probably would have had at least 2 oil changes in that amount of time. But I carnt say nothing the missis checks the oil on mine more than me but mines running N/A at the mo!
