Why does my car drink a lot?

holy poo. bp fuel is so expensive. they dont seem to even want to attempt to compete with other petrol stations.

duncan down here shell is 142 for vpower, so bp and shell are simiarly priced for there top brand pump petrol...
lewis i only get more as mine has been mapped, but if i boost then trust me u want see the juice go.lol.....

For more than a year I've been paying more than that for super unleaded in the local Esso station. On the rare occasion it drops to £1.379 but more often than not it's up around £1.429/£1.439.

Spooling up and down in those tunnels on Saturday wouldnt have done the fuel consumption much good tbh Lew. Lol.
I used £25 worth of fuel that night. Left my house with half a tank and returned with buggar all.

the stock ecu eats petrol when ya up the boost on it, i found this too and even more if ya have a upgraded fpr and pump.. my blitz ecu is actually doing way better milage (untill you put the boot down that is), tipping along at 60/70mph with stock ecu at .8, mine was a guzzler

what gear were you in the be at 0.8bar at those speeds constantly. change gear man!!!!!!

and there is nothing wrong with the stock ecu fuelling under fuel cut. its a bit rich i admit, but wouldnt be that horrendous.

dont get ya at all??

EDIT; ah i see, could of worded that better i suppose, im hardly boosting at that at that speed, excuse my interpretation .. my car did drink petrol with the stock ecu tho, i know and my wallet knows, its 10 times better now even at 1bar with the blitz ecu off boost at those speeds

i dont really see what you mean about the max boost your running and then off boost fuel consumption????

the same car with the same ecu could have a max boost of 1 bar or 10 bar and the off boost fuel consumption will not alter. i dont see how you can say that just upping the boost on the stock ecu makes your off boost fuel consumption higher? its simply not possible.

right, im just tired and talking nonsense, at those speeds with the stock ecu i was eating petrol, im not now with the blitz, forget boost and yes, fueling is grand

Looks like mapping and uprated ecu's does help. Maybe ill stop worrying for now as it seems like im getting about the same fuel consumption as most others.

Cheers for everyone posting. much appreicated :)

It's all down to how hard you boot it -)))) Long motroway run always gives me over 300 miles per tank - that's before the light will start flashing.

That's what it really comes down to. As I said average driving I'd see around 230 miles to a tank, granny driving I'd get maybe 250-260 miles to a tank, and on a good hard track day I'd be lucky to see 85 miles before the light comes on.

Agreed Paul,

I recently filled up at Spa on the way home from Germany & got 330 miles on that full tank (full to the filler neck) this was mostly motorway driving, but from dover & then onto Chiswell green @ St. Albans before I needed to fill up again. My Glanza is running rich too!

very true and been honest, i dont boot it on the motorways, all i was saying was. when tipping along at 70mph with the stock ecu i was eating more petrol than the blitz ecu at the same speeds/revs... i do travel alot for parts and mostly to the same places so have tested it out enough to know the difference.. ud kinda think that the blitz ecu would eat more petrol cause it has a more aggressive map but obviously not ("in my case").. i found the same thing to happen running a sard ecu a mate loaned to me for a month or so.. i cant give figures for the full tank cause again been honest, ive never filled her cause its just too dam expensive over here and i cant afford it... i can never find the info on these ecu's when i want it but they are knowen to lean out at a steady speed/rev and then refuel once you put the hammer in.. ive seen this myself with a wideband fitted to the mates car (bloke with sard ecu)... a wideband is my next port of call when i get the funds together so i will test this myself on the stock ecu and then the blitz ecu

THanks for info guys. IS it just a matter of picking up an uprated ecu from on here 2nd hand? how much cheapest have you guys seen them go for?

I got 185 miles out of that full tank i put in @ £50. Never booted over 5k revs and mostly around town steady driving, bit of motorway the other day (over 70mph) etc.. etc.. Im hoping an uprated ecu will sort my problems along with a wideband to keep an eye on. But again, thats money i dont have at the mo lol.

not necessarily tho bud... im just saying for my setup maybe, its hard to say it will be the same with everyone, borrow one for a few days to see if it improves

My standard ecu chucked in loads more fuel than it needed when boosting over .6 have u checked for leaks? Also is that 2.3 bar set with the vacuum hose off? Personally I would ditch the fpr and get a self learning ecu or emanage a properly set up car will be more efficent

little tip for long journeys! use super unleaded 97 ron, maybe half a tank tops before.. then go back to v power to top it up. You'll get an extra 40 miles or so out your tank. saves a bit on petty money!
