Borewash lol it sounds like Burwash, if your having borewash too much fuel is entering the cylinders, not being burnt, leaked past the rings into the sump and mixing with the oil = very bad :).

Teehee I know what borewash is silly! Was only joshing about. Dave Borwash ftws! :p

if thats the fuel ratio I wouldn't be daily driving it either Hutch. #~Get it sorted asap. Does sound like he couldn't be arsed with your car and just plucked the figures out of his rectom.

EFI pipe intake with huge K&N filter and front exit exhaust with small backbox and 2.25" piping...so exhaust could be quite restrictive! Somethings good for torque though, which really matters :p

The avcr has a memory function, very easy to see if you are making 1.2 bar or whatever, you can record boost figures for 60 seconds and scroll back over them as a graph.

If he did not use the avcr for reading the boost, it is possible to read different boost levels at different positions of the inlet tract. Anywhere there is a sudden increase in pipe diameter you will read the boost as less around that point.

I would not diss him straight away, you paid for his services, go back to him and ask him for a further explanation of his results, even call him. Explain you have asked elsewhere for a quote to repair a possible fault, as you feel something must be wrong after those readings. Tell him the repairer said the information must be wrong and you want to clarify it with him before going back, if he starts getting flustered you know he has done fuck all.

Tell him you want it done again in your presence.

That's sound advice right there.

He did say 8.5 %, so maybe he means something completely different ??

I think he is using a FAR(Fuel/Air ratio) reading rather than the usual AFR (Air/fuel ratio) terminology.

It would sound about right.

As John suggested, there's little point in messing about - take it back to him and ask him to explain the poor result.

A lot of you guys put great stock in these figures but fail to realise it's hard to effectively compare them to other peoples' results.

im afraid tho you dont need fancy gizmos to tell you its running rich,

if it feels underpowered and stinks of fuel.. you dont need to be a brainbox to tell its running rich imo.

god gave you the powers of smell so you may aswell use them lol

I highly doubt hes referring to AFR guys as i don't know of any wideband equipment that reads that rich, its normally 10.0:1 is the richest it will read, maybe get into the 9's but no tuner would ever map to 8.0:1 AFR.
