I highly doubt hes referring to AFR guys as i don't know of any wideband equipment that reads that rich, its normally 10.0:1 is the richest it will read, maybe get into the 9's but no tuner would ever map to 8.0:1 AFR.

It's a FAR figure that he's using Nick.

Get the calculator out - I had to!

Call me fussy but a fancy gizmo is safer, more accurate and much easier everytime.

no doubt im not disageeing with that jay, but you would know your car and if hes saying it stinks of fuel then theres either a fuel leak or running way to rich

Does he not just mean that of the total mix going into the engine 8.5% of it is fuel. Which I work out as 10.7:1

8%, like he said he wanted, would be 11.5:1

You can only trust this assumption on idle. I don't know if my senses are failing but all I can smell at 100mph is fear..

well doen sam lol, the guy sounds old school if he is using %s FAR. But even 10:1 should get more powers than that?

Thats the thing, yes it stinks of fuel but it doesn't feel under powered. Unless I'm just used to it and think this level of power is normal. Either way the guy didn't charge me anything which makes me think he couldn't be arsed so I'm not gonna bother with him again, I'm still booked in at Owen Developments and I know they've got a good rep.

He actually said he tunes to 8% I'm running 8.5%. Sorry guys but I can't get my head around all this. Working it out how Sam worked it out is 8.5% (not 8.5:1 afr) rich, lean, good or bad? Either way I'm still gonna take it elsewhere coz I haven't got any confidence in the guy but it'd be nice to know if my car is in any danger until I get it sorted properly.

A tad rich, so what he usually tunes to would be fine.

Yes it would, unburnt fuel stinks, as you know. Bide your time and get it booked in somewhere decent with a good reputation. I have always said money spent on a dyno session is the best money you will spend on the car. This is where all your hard work and tuning parts (if thought through properly) will come together.

I personally don't mind spending £50/60/100 per hour with a good mapper when you're getting his 20 odd years of experience. Far better than some spotty oink with a degree and little "real world" experience. I believe with mappers you get what you pay for (there are a few exceptions).

Choose someone fairly local and get loads of background on their work :)
