update bios?

unplug everything, printers, external HDD, internal DVD drive etc etc does this help?

A lot of these issues can be related to USB devices and hardware sharing IRQ's

you dont need any certification for this stuff dude its simple.

Usually go to the motherboard manufacturers website seek out their support page and there will normally be a download of the latest bios with flashing instructions.

Some are easier than others. The last one I did was simple and was an exe file you ran in windows! Most others Ive used are actioned by a bootable floppy or USB flash drive. Give it a look and see what they have :)

easiest way is to reboot your machine and when the bios splash screen pops up pause it. Usually you do this by pressing esc or del or tab. This will normally have the model of your motherboard and the bios version.

do an integrity check on your hard disk see if u have any bad sectors/cluster, even tho after a reinstall they still show up, could be a bad read/write area on the disk

was just about to suggest this, mine has recently started to have an occassional 5 second freeze randomly and i'm suspecting the hard drive has a problem, am gonna replace it.

easiest way for you is to schedule a disk check, the way i do it is to click start, run, type in CMD, then in the dosbox type CHKDSK C: /R , it'll ask if you wanna schedule the scan to run on reboot, say yes then restart computer. bear in mind this check can take hours so do it when you don't need to use the computer.

by the way, bios updates on foxxconn motherboards are easy. find the program foxxconn live update from http://www.foxconnsupport.com/ and it will check for driver and bios updates online.

Aye try the de-frag and see if that helps. Would also recomend clearing your start-up programs to test it to run this:
Goto Start then Run
Type MSCONFIG and press enter
Then goto the Startup tab and disable all but re-enable security centre
Then goto Services, tick hide all microsoft services
And again disable all but re-enable your security.

Failing that it still sounds like Spyware to me even though you did a format it is very easy to get spyware and as you said it most happens when your online as in on a web browser. I would update your Security Centre to Avast and your Spyware protection to SuperAntiSpyware, just do a search in google for both of them they are both free.

If the problem still persists then I would put the system into Safe Mode with Networking and test there, to do this:

When the system is starting up tap the F8 key
Choose Safe Mode With Networkign from the advanced options
Login to windows

This mode with have distorted graphics etc but not to worry its for testing purposes so all your drivers etc arent loaded. If the problem is still hapening within this then I say you would have a hardware fault. More than likely would be your hard drive at this point or maybe a piece of dodgy memory. If it doesnt bother you too much then just keep using the system until the part completely fails but if its annoys you then strip the system and replace the hard drive and test if the problem is still there then try replacing some memory.
Hope this helps. And if you want I can connect to your system and have a look for you;)

Hello mate, very nice write up, i belive it to be a hardware problem as i've don the disk check etc aswell as disabled all the start up things and it also does it in safe mode, sometimes it wont be around for hours and will randomly start - I also tried to install windows 7 RC and the bluescreen came up (tried 64bit and 32bit) but still had the very same problem said 'Hardware something orather' but didnt exactly say what it was?

Thanks for your help!

just zero it all out that will sort it lol

your system might not have the required ram, or free space to fun windows 7, but i cant see why not as your stats seem pretty reasonable, i haven't tried installing it yet so can really help sorry mate.

Did the BSOD say ' Windows Failed to start a recent hardware or software change may have caused this'?
Yeah it is looking like a hardware fault will be there in the near future. Personally if its isnt that bad/annoying I would leave it until the fault actually shows its face as in the system fails to start. The reason I say this is because you could be changing parts all day to find the fault which is a waste of money.
One thing you could try is swap testing your memory so run your system with 1GB of memory, try both the stick individually and on every memory slot on your motherboard, this can tell you if the fault is with your memory or the port on the board.
It may not even be memory could be hard drive etc so unless you have a few spare parts you wont be able to tell without buying some parts.
OHH actually just thought if you install Vista on the system and if you have a memory key like a 1GB or 2GB key then plug it in and when the autoplay options come up you will see one called 'Speed Booster' or something like that basically the memory key acts as virtual memory for the system speeding it up. This will tell you if it is memory related.
Also google increasing hardware accelartion and page filing, these can also speed up the refresh rate of your pages etc.
No problem bud do this for a living so its handy enough to write up steps.

Also have you ever tried running Linux? Like UBUNTU or something similiar. These are great OS and underestimated, also they are probably the most secure OS you can get and best of all they are completely free and come with some great features.
Takes a bit of getting used to but you dont even have to install it to try it out just put in the disc and it runs off the disc.

Yeah its is quite easy to use for sure. The only problems that most people have is getting it setup on the bigger system like finding drivers etc for graphics.
I dont know why more people arent using it. I have a new Dell XPS laptop on its way and it will be triple booted with XP, Vista and Linux. Linux is great for additional features and banking etc, XP for gaming and Vista for personal use. Think they all work well together, may even try and get the Mac OS on there but thats a whole other story:haha:

I've got quiet a few spare parts, though all the hdd's i have a IDE so need to find a SATA to ide adaptor the memory i can swap out etc so shouldnt be a problem!, Don't have vista and can't really justify spending money on getting a copy at the moment.

I've not tried linux or anything like that as im unsure of compatablity with all the programs/games i have?

I've done all the page file thing.

Cheers Guys

Does your motherboard not have IDE connectors? Easiest option would be to get yourself an IDE cable and hook the hard drive up. Happy adys you can swap test the memory.
Never worry about Vista just if you had a copy you could try it, as for Linux get this problem sorted first sure and then download it free online and have a play with it and see what you think.
Good Luck.
