Crank shaft oil seal - help

Seal is on the way out if not leaking from somewhere else around. New oil can mask the prob for a small period of time. Seal should withstant even if the oil was grade 5-10 for hydraulics.
If possible sent me a photo of your chiped pulley by e-mail. I may have a gift for you!;)

so.. went to check again..

i found some drops of oil on the floor that seemed it was coming from behind the sump.. wtf??

after jacking the car i found that oil was coming from back of the sump and after looking from where the dips tick is i noticed that the end of the tube of the dipstick that is going into the block was leaking and full of oil... when we changed the water pump and took the dipstick out i didnt change the o-ring and it was already leaking a bit but no drops on the floor.

i think that its leaking from there and going down the sump and its looking like its coming from after the pulley! i did not find any drops of oil under the pulley and thats the lowest point so if it was coming from there it would have drooped under the pulley...

some pics but not clear at all!

ive never had the dipstick out on mine but it has developed a small seep over time from a similar location on both my GTs, or thats the only place i can think its coming from. when i do the water pump i will change it.

tbh mate it could be leaking from all the oil seals. when i did the cambelt on my runabout GT i noticed all the seals were leaking, just replaced them all. now i think the sump has a slight leak but ill leave it until the better weather now.

the crankshaft oil seal isnt too bad to do, just be careful not to push it too far in like it did and nearly loose it!!! luckily i got it hooked and managed to get it out. its alot more of a bitch to do than the flywheel side one!

That dipstick seal can leak after a decade or so. Another thing they are prone to is the sump gasket weeping around the back. A bit of sealer usually sorts that out though.

after a good insepction.. im 99.9% sure that oil was coming from the back of the engine.. gave the sump and everywhere a good clean with wd40, took the dipstick out cleaned it and put some instant gasket before putting it back as i had no o-ring (o-ring was FLAT lol)

started the car and left it idle for 10 minutes then switched it off and after 4hrs there where no drps under the car.. then had a 1hr drive and put it in the garage.. will know today if there was any leaks on the floor.

thanks for your input everyone. hope il sort this in a way or an other!.

im experience exactly the same Sheldon on mine, just noticed it this week. Only a few few drops i noticed on the floor after a week at rest and they seem to come just from the back of the sump and around the dipstick area as you explained. i will check later on when i make an oil change for leaks there, nothing major after all and im keeping an eye too about it, thnks for the info Sheld!

could be also th sump from the back..

what you have to do is take off the dipstick tube and put some instant gasket at the and around the o-ring.. and put it back. leave it to dry.

if you jack the car and clean the oil with wd40 and around the dipstick area would be much easy to spot any other leaks.

i need to do an oil change ASAP but cant find the time to go and buy the oil:( what type of oil you put in your engine? total quartz 10w 50 for me.. but was thinking to try silcolen

yes with a gd clean up you'll see better for leaks! I always used Shell Helix 10w 40 for the past 2 years now and found it quite gd, change mine every 2k (approx.4-5 months).
