CT9 vs TD12 vs TD04 - Pros & Cons

Any hybrid CT9 users want to comment on how good or disappointing they found their choice of turbo to be?

I found the CT9 hybrid better on top end from the standard ct9, they are both as good on spool up,if you wer lookin to just replace a knackerd or (rebuildin) a standard ct9 then i its worth payin for a hybrid in price differance, ave paid silly money for ct9 hybrid when they wer new on market :( ,its the oil seals and wastegate crackin are common problems that put me of (not cheap).
Personally i would still recommend goin TD04 plus cheap to replace.

id always go for tdo4 or tdo5 as most hybrids just give up after awhile from what ive seen on many a car ..tdo4s suit well or a nice Garrett turbocharger over a hybird

mine has done about 10k miles of reasonably hard driving and its still going perfectly.

i agree the hybrids tend wear out quicker, but it could be due to many other factors. they are generally run right at their limits when used.

hey im running a td12 andits only at 0.7 bar just now but it still puts a smile on my face when driving. it spools slighty later than a standard ct9 (dont know exactly) but pulls al the way up the gears. you can sit at 60 and it will pull to 80 no bother in fifth. any thing else you want to know about it just ask

am running a tongs hybrid ct9 off enzo and i am amazed at how much top end power its got when i first got it fitted it took time to settle in as i reset my jam ecu but after a few days of driving it was so much better mines spools up at about just over 3k or so and pulls all the way to redline a lad around my area has td04 setup and tbh with you theres no diffrance in performance was glued with him on private track we was leval to leval all the way untill we had to slow down when i was on my ct9 setup at 1 bar i didnt stand a chance with him just to let you know hybrids do make a diffrance over a ct9 at 1 bar and it is a big diffrance and tbh with you people say about seals going and all that it all comes down to if you primed the turbo properly iswell jut my 2p:)

Spent more money on oil and oil filters by getin messed about wiv the (ct9).

I always prime the turbo by takin the king lead of,also go easy for the first 100 miles or so.Even though am runnin on a second hand TD04 for the last 9 months its the best turbo since my first CT9 hybrid.

Thers always been a good an bad batch of the ct9 Hybrids

i dont think the main concern is that the Hybrids "may be" on par with the TD04 but rather that for the cost..the TD04 seems to be more reliable

a second hand Hybrid mght be around 200-300 pounds

while you could score a second hand TD04 for less off a scooby site

and dont forget that there are also TD04 Hybrids

if you only running 0.8 stock ecu ct9 then, id go for a ported stock mani(DEFINITELY) with a stock ct9 and running something over a bar with a decent map and you'll go from roughly 155hp too 180 so a noticeable difference for sure.

i went ct9 hybrid and its a pointless heap of issues, length of life and boost control issues will plague your car. remember they are barely bigger than a stock ct9 AND some of then have completely stock hot sides!!

so at best with a hybrid(300-500quid) you will have a reworked hotside and a bigger comp wheel/housing that will need to be running its guts out 15-20psi to even match what a well setup td04(40-80quid) will do well within its limits @1bar.

go td04 ex gate.

rock solid boost control.

running well within its limits will give you as much as you would like to take from a stock engine.

plus getting you ££ back from a td04 kit or td04 gt is much easier than a ct9 or hybrid setup.

TD04 TD04 TD04 TD04 TD04 TD04 TD04 TD04..... every time.

if texx isnt decided if he can cope between the lag difference in a ct9/td04 he isnt going to want to go any bigger!

the turbo itself is alot cheaper. but when you put a new ct9 hybrid against a td04 kit then the hybrid generally comes out cheaper.

Not really no you get a zisco kit for 500 pound you'd pick up a td04 for around 80. So for the price of a new hybrid you can buy a whole td04 kit thats without even getting a mani and down pipe for it. A hybrid setup with new mani and down pipe is a more expensive route. This craic about hybrids would be gone by the time a td04 comes on boost is bollocks imo.

im talking like for like. if you priced it up including a reconditioned td04 then the td04 route would cost more, not alot though, i will admit.

when i was looking into it when i went with the hybrid, the hybrid route would have been alot cheaper for me as i already had a mani and downpipe. alot of people have either an aftermarket downpipe/mani or both already.

Yes I know what your saying but like you I was talking like for like. Say you were starting from skratch did'nt have the mani and down pipe the td04 setup is the far cheaper and superior option imo.

td04's are dirt cheap and hard as nails, i wouldnt pay anymore than 50 for a second hand one in good shape. been boosting mine at 1.4 bar for over a year no with no dv, it has a fair bit of play but still no smoke and goes the same as it always did.

a good hybrid at 1.4bar is great fun though ;) TD04 running over a bar is crap for fast road driving tbh, can be very dangerous when you have a good diff in there combined with bumpy roads. Anyone who disagrees is talking utter shite.

ive been running a TD12 for 3months or so now.

I find it spools just as quick as a ct9 im only running 0.8bar and making 190bhp i had a play with aryglefan glanza running 1bar and i was stuck right behind him and he only got away once i hit the speed limiter.

Texx i may be up bristol within the next month and could take you for a spin if your around.
