these cost me 85 quid for the calipers and discs and 40 quid for a rebuild kit to get the twin pots working as new. just giving you the budjet option. dont mean to hijack your thread.

apart from that i always find dave great to deal with
You have a part number for the rebuild kit.

I personally won't be wasting ~£1000 buying a brake kit when I can build a similar spec'd kit from standard parts from another car for 1/4 of the price. ;)

Interesting the comments on the 3G's cracking too...

im using the willwood kit BUT from MC CHU NOT the 3G from dave..... they were a hell of alot of money but the braking power and quality is unreal..... really worth it if your punching some serious Horse.....

I wouldnt go half way when it comes to brakes... for the extra cost i would go for the ones in Japan... Not 3G.... just my opinion.......

Yea you can do that, but the braking power still isnt as good.
Infact not even close, even with a 300mm disc.

My 3G kit is brilliant, hands down.
Not once had a problem with them, even after a trackday, there still as good as ever.

Only thing that ive seen in the past with the willwood is they are always stated as race use only. Ie the seals are not up to standard for everyday road use due to chances of rusting/ dirt etc getting to the pistons. This was a while back though when i last looked, and they have many diff calipers so maybe they have proper road versions now?

this is the same way i feel about the approach to buying asort of brake kit. especially the safety of them, becoz when i want to brake - i dont want to have to pray at the same time the b**** would hang on and not crash.

my car doesnt have loads of power yet, but when it does - i really like to brake alot fast than stand brakes.

have you even tried braking from about 100mph on standard, its so scary, you just have to hope you brake in time.

Well im not sure how true what your saying is although i will say on the box does say "only for race/competition use" ...... so you may well be right....

I've got the wilwood calipers and 3G discs and they're brilliant. People can bang on about how good AP are but I'm sticking to what I know.

hell yeah, i was running stock brakes/pads for 1 year on the stock starlet then 6 months on the road with the 3sgte in it... lol... yes was a fu*kin hard task to man handle the bugger..... So dangerous to be honest....

But with the new set up the chassis twists almost its braking so hard lol... the front end just goes down and halts.....

Im like you in this i think, i wouldnt go for anything else that i know have been used for a long time now and heard none bad about it... so the Willwoods from japland was the way forward for me...... and for such a light car they are MORE then enough....

PS... mine wouldnt fit under my 16's though, i blame that on my alloy design.... im confidant it would fit in some other 15's....

Yes, the braking system is something that shouldn't be bodged or skimped on, but on the flip side I really see a 1k kit as a horrendous waste of money.

It doesn't matter how big or powerful your brakes are, they will only slow the car down as much as the grip in the tyres will permit. Stamp on the pedal at 60-70 on stock disks and pads and you will lock the wheels up. A large braking kit will not slow the car down any faster with exactly the same road and tyre conditions until slower speeds when the stock system has cooked itself. Larger brakes really come into the own at higher speeds when the stock setup cannot lock the wheels up. Larger brake kits are also more efficient, requiring less effort to do the same amount of work meaning they can be abused for far longer before showing any signs of fade.

So, what am I doing? I am planning getting 280mm stock disks and 4 pot calipers off an Nissan 200sx s14a. It'll cost me ~£250 for the disks and calipers and ~£100 for brackets to fit them. They will provide more than enough braking power in a car weighing 860 kilo's with 180 bhp, bearing in mind that the stock brakes on an s14a are sufficient for ~300bhp in a car weighing close to 1200 kilo's. The only concern is that the master cylinder won't have the capacity, which is unlikely given that these 1k kits run on the stock master cylinder. I'd also be as bold as to say that a 280mm flat disk is just as efficient as a 300mm grooved one.

So again, why waste 1k on a kit when £350 will do the same job, leaving more money to spend on other mods? :homer:

Banned - DO NOT BUY FROM TOYTUNING
Were about to bring a budget willwood kit out for circa £500.00 which will be great for some members, front and rear also for those that need..

TBH thats not a good line of thinking mate ... check the history AP have when it comes to brakes and check the history 3G has. AP is a big ass name like BREMBO

AP wins all the time when compared to 3G definetly !!!!

Aint 3G discs made by Brembo? or is that just a rumour I heard many moons ago?

Indeed.

Although you lot are lucky you can buy such kits. I've been wracking my brains about who would consider fabricating me some mounts for radial mount calipers. Even powerlites would be sufficent for me.

i was a bit worried 4 pots may be overkill for a starlet as they are so light. I am running a TD04 setup a gt4 or Levin setup should be fine wouldnt they?
