Declaring Modifications

Does anyone know how much I should expect to be paying to insure a standard starlet gt turbo with Quinn Direct?

I can't get a quote until I'm 21 (in two months time). I have 3 years no claims with a full licence held for less than a year.

how did you get three no claims if licence held for less than a year,

probly my eyes or sumut lol

Your eyes are fine:)

I've had a full licence for less than a year but i have been driving for more than 3:). This is due to the 12 month waiting list for driving tests in Cork city.

to be honest insuring mods is a waste of time in my eyes. My brother had his gtr done 600bhp and due to another road driver who pulled in front of him (who ran away) lost control under heavy braking as the person pulled out sharp and was way slower. The company have now agreed to give him 4500 or sumfin when he had an agreed value of 12k and like for like cover. Fortunate for him he bought another gtr bog standard apart from rims exhaust and roll cage and someone rear ended hime and they have settled for 8,700. That is a piss take as he bought it for 5k.

So basically if its not your fault then you dont have a thing to worry about as your insurere doesn't come out theirs does so you can claim the full proper value. So be carefull and don't be silly and get the main things insured.

i agree with jabran mostly

anything of value or obvious
declare it

fcuk the rest who cares if u 5e big turbo under there, i know of
people who switch parts before insurance been out to see the car..

visually they check alot more, they are not mech. minded

mods that make u stand out/ look good bump up the price
as u are making more appealing to twockers

lol

What's the point on a third party policy though? They never look at your do they?

Although I've got wheels, zorst and springs on mine. Don't think the bonnet's covered YET.

at 23 with 3 yrs no claims and no crashes been drivin 6yrs this sep driven glanza's for 2 1/2 yrs and still get quotes of 2k fully comp form the likes of flux on a td04 glanza so how do people like 3sgte get cover so cheap when you tell them the mods you have?? the honest ones of us get put over a barrel most of the time!!!!!

starlet3sgte - how does your 7k payout work? coz no matter what you insure the value of your car as (1k to 10k) when an accident happens i thought they searched the market and give you the value of what the car is around that time. (sorry just curious how it works)

It'll b market value plus anything insured on a like for like basis.
Thatz my understanding FWIW...........................................

not in my case either, they gave me the value that the car was insured for, they didnt matter that they where going for more or less just wat i had it down as.

but surely someone could just buy a metro and insure it for like 8k? and then it gets 'robbed'

When you car is stolen the insurance pays out the current market value of the vehicle. Thats how i've always known it.

I'd make a point of having all mods declared personally. Many insurance companies would only need half a chance to cause you extra grief in the hope of saving themselves money.

well maybe exceptions for that kind of thing, i think it would be fairly obvious that a metro wont be worth that kinda money lol.

If any sensible members are reading this, then please please please ignore everything this guy has said above. Pick the right insurer, declare EVERY modification and you are legally covered. Withhold information and you are driving around without insurance. It is as simple as that.

If you pick the right insurer who understand the car and the mods then you will not be charged huge amounts.

If you did have a crah without disclosing ALL of your modifications, the insurer is within their rights to not pay out. If there is damage to a third party the insurer will chase you for the money throught the courts. not the best of advice I'm afraid.

i find it very annoying as ive had a renewal quote fron admiral for 660 fully comp. then went to skyinsurance and got quoted 1300 fully comp with td04 on,whch was great, i decided to wait before i installd the td04 and started paying 1160 fully comp, then when i went to add the td04 they wanted 375 ontop...every time ive asked for a quote ive had different figures.

i went to cancel after 2 months as i didnt agree with this figure so was guna leave it in the garage. then .. i called up after paying 295 deposit, and 90 for a months cover they wanted 190 for me to cancel...no other company has charged me to cancel,i was expecting money back, not nearly 500 for 2months cover.

they only upside is they will give me the best quote for a pulsar ive had,but still...im disapionted. ..feel its not worth having it if im paying stupid 1k more for a few mods.

would mods like coilovers or better brakes etc lower the insurance premium??

btw i have declared all my mods as i would rather be safer than sorry! :)

I phoned bell up and insured my GTti for a week, listed about 75% of the modifications. They didn't have an option for the intercooler and some other items, so I basically said well that's not my problem :p

coilovers and brakes suggest you will be driving fast and they often look good so will make the car more desirable to steal so your premium will go up
