would mods like coilovers or better brakes etc lower the insurance premium??

btw i have declared all my mods as i would rather be safer than sorry! :)

Generally we wouldn't load for the brakes, we may have a small charge for the coilovers

Cheers

starlet3sgte - how does your 7k payout work? coz no matter what you insure the value of your car as (1k to 10k) when an accident happens i thought they searched the market and give you the value of what the car is around that time. (sorry just curious how it works)

Well i would be lying if i said i was certain in how it exactly works if an accident were to occur, although im under some sort of custom insurance as the car is not listed.... So there is a written agreement that the car as a whole is worth 7K... I said i had spend 14K+ on the car at the time but just asked for 7K back and they agreed..... I have receipts of soo many things etc including the engine....

Weather they pay out full i couldnt tell you that kelly.. Who knows. I'd like to think i would.

If it is a true agreed valuation like my company do, you will get back your £7k minus your policy excess in the event of a total loss. No arguements. Phone you insurer and double check bud!

OR you could just go slam your brakes on infront of someone. Seems abit odd.

Some people do exactly that. Buy shit heap fiestas, metros etc and drive around slamming their brakes on, making insurance clamis against the other driver and earn a living from it.

Another thing to remember, it's all well and good not declaring any mods, bearing in mind if you chuck the car into a ditch, do a fair bit of damage to the car in the process, as long as there are no fatalities/injuries/property damage etc id imagine it's unlikey an insurance assessor will need to get involved. If however you end up involved in a high speed crash involving other drivers with write-offs, fatalities etc and your driving a forged K26 GT running 300bhp with a pile of interior and exterior mods as well, and insured as a stock GT, then shit could hit the fan in a very big way.

A mates blue V got burned you might remember the pic of it I posted awhile ago and when the assessor came out and saw the car he offerd 2000 for it. Then he turned to us and said you would have got 4500 if you insured it as a turbo. I could'nt believe he got a penny as it was insured as n/a.This was with Quinn.

I didnt declare my mods on the Paseo ST, Stuffed that and didnt get anything, not one single penny. My own fault tho. The car cost me £2.3k and the insurance was £1.8k, not the best choice i ever made.

It wasnt a serious crash, i hit someone from behind, totally my fault. They agreed to repair the car i hit, so i guess i was lucky there. They called me up and said "I've (the assesor) been to see the car, its moddified, why didnt you tell us?.. Please hold.. 30 mins later!.. I've spoken with my manager and blah blah we wont give you anything."

I did manage to get 2 new windows and a £500 sunroof from them tho when chavs bricked the car. The sunroof had to be imported from Jap-land! Despite the huge spec list aswell all they mentioned was the alloys, air filter, exhaust, manifold and the spoilers (front and rear). Didnt even notice it was lowered, bucket seats, steering wheel, rear disc swap, ARBs, ALKs, front and rear struts etc! Oh, and they didnt even mention the full body graphics!!??

I'll deffo tell them about mods next time, but im not going to mention ARBS, ALKs, fender bars, TRD headgasket, 4efte inlet manifold/bigger TB because they'd never know in a million years. I'll just tell them about things they can see, like the wheels/filter/exhaust/seats/lowering springs.

Elephant were stupid with mine, when I rang up to declare my suspension mods (coilovers, front and rear ARB's, ALK, panhard rod, poly bushes) all they wanted to know was how much it was lowered by.

speaking from personal experiance,

declare everything, it only takes one full on policeman to pull you over and start asking questions....

and before you know it, your getting the bus....

Ive experienced this myself, was jus asked wot mods i had, turned out he was jus curious cus he drove a 200 sx

lol alot nicer than some pumped up cop pulling you over to give you hassle, thats the way cops should go on about our cars, just show an interest :p

Its a bit foolish not to declare mods. Yeah its annoying that with admiral i have to pay to cover mods but they dont pay out for them, however at least they are pretty reasonable with mods pricing. With the exception of alloys! They charge quite a bit, and not covered!

Anyway, i have my air filter, exhaust, alloys and suspension declared. Only thing i dont is the dump valve, and the carbon bonnet scoop.

Is why i need to change ins companies. I have a FMIC ready to go on, but elephant wont cover it. And then i want an emanage, up the boost etc.

Need to contact sky soon and ask if they can do a limited miles policy on the GT as a 2nd car :)

Another reason why important to declare mods, is the type of car we drive. They do stand out a bit, and is exactly the sort of car the insurers are likely to suspect/ check over for un declared mods to give any excuse not to pay out!

Hate insurance companies, they are scumbags most of the time, happy to take £££ off you but never quick to pay out! Bad experience in the past thanks to some inbred tit in an escort hitting me. My old man has motortraders policy, and he cant drive my car! The policy states he CANNOT drive grey imports or modified cars!! WTF, what sort of joke is that! If someone needs a road test on their car, sorry mate i cant drive it it has alloys on so im not covered. Pisstakers.

it is mentioned above that someone had a car insured as NA and when it got burned they only got paid half the value of it... but there was no one hurt in that case.

Hit someone and do 100,000 worth of damage to them with claims etc in a turbo registered as an NA and see what stance the insurance company take! They would most probably say you are not insured as you lied about the car and rightly so.

Anyone that insures their car as an NA if it is a turbo is a total idiot and shouldnt be on the road.

Sorry Neal but our minimum criteria is aged over 19 with 2 years driving experience.

And they tend not to insure Liers lol. Only a fool would insure a 1.3 turbo as an N/A, thats just asking for trouble you may aswell drive around with no insurance!
