How much worse can one forum get?

This is just getting silly now.

Simple: Members cars are for members cars
Chillout or photo are for various photos you might want to show
Site subscriptions go towards running the site and are voluntary

I am aware that some people on here dive into these threads and any other negative threads and love to make a big deal out of them. I am locking this and no doubt will get the usual "Staff on here lock everything" comments.

Would be great to one day come on and see a thread as long as this after we have posted the newsletter etc with people giving positive feedback but thats unlikely to ever happen.

So much to cover, so little time.. I'll type fast and stick to the point so as no-one gets bored. I have missed this one completely and haven't had a chance to discuss anything with the staff so you can be sure that this is up-front and fresh.

Im sorry but this forum is getting worse and worse. Limiting more and more stuff that can be done until youre a paid member, and then still limiting what you can do once you are a paid member. I've been here since the beginning, ive owned my gt for 8 years, but the fact that i have to pay for a second account for my gf to post pics of her car in the members thread is a joke. She would never come on here, so i thought i would share the pics with you all, only to find the thread moved and unable to be posted in. Seems the mods on here are all power mad. So its bye from me. Not being a part of this forum anymore.

Hi mate, initially allow me to apologise for any upset caused.

I've reviewed the thread in question and honestly don't feel that there was any intent to offend you but the matter could have been resolved more gracefully.

At the same time I feel that I need to address a few points from an equal perspective so please humour me a little:

We are both longstanding veterans of the board and both know that forums aren't the best at conveying emotion - a short, sharp message can seem blunt. In this case I assure you it is a case of the moderating staff simply doing as they are directed as quickly as they can.

True, it's unfortunate that rules are a necessary evil in this day and age, but there just isn't the same level of common sense and manners that we seemed to have in the beginning. Our mods are only trying to do a good job and help the site.

It's unfortunate that the same rules that try to uphold order have caused you ill feeling and unnecessary upset. The proverbial double-edged sword as it were.. but it does cut a lot of crap out of the forum.

EDIT : Just noticed Dylan has closed this thread. Please PM me if I can offer any more answers mate.

I think the mods should spend more time sorting out the forum by making it more reliable, rather than getting database error every few days or so!!! Id like to see where the paid members money is actually being used, its not even like were paying for a super dooper server that never brakes down because quite frankly the free one on the other forum was much better!!!

It seem like a certain few mods have let the "powerfull" delete button go to there heads and dont hessitate to use it!! Even one off the supermods who i think was one off the originals actually made the first comment on the discussed topic and applauded the car not deleted it!!!!

What is going on???

Hi James, a lot of points raised in so few paragraphs. I'll answer best I can;

1. The server has been experiencing problems only in the past few months. It fucks me off greatly to see the 'Database Error' message too. The point has been raised and is under technical investigation.

2. The moderators moderate the forum. They have precious little to do with the server.

3. The last server was a million times worse. It could not handle the traffic and broke down for whole weekends at a time. We can go back to it if you want but kiss goodbye to ANY reliability or server support.

4. I don't see power-hungry attitiudes in any of the moderating staff. Each one is a team player and I don't sense any egos at play.

nothing towards jay but why was this not locked?

seems to be two set's of rules

yeah can't believe have petty thing's have got and your not allowed to even have a joke about things on here without someone saying how wrong you are etc, look at all the good forums and you look through it and there links to racing and loads of other stuff, but on here you put a video up and you lot think that the forum going to get closed down and everyone put in prison for 100 years:p,

I was helping a fellow member who didn't understand how to display images. I am pretty sure the rulebook hasn't outlawed helping people but I'll doublecheck and get back to you.

The likes of streetracing and illegal activities aren't permitted on this site. You agreed to that when you signed up as did I and everyone else. The prison sentence will depend on who you hit and how hard.

lol

seriously come on guys, this site is hardly a bad site, i love coming on here and getting helped with my problems, and helping others with there problems.

the rules are there to stop it from getting clogged with shit.

Cheers Ricky, was thankful of a little sunshine.

all i can say is,ever since there was a certain feature in banzai magazine, there has been a lot of knobs attracted to this site who do nothing but give shit advice and talk gibberish about topics they havnt a clue about.

As predicted a long time ago Johnny, once the EP gets decent press then the secret is out and we are all doomed. Leave them all in the dark and around 20 car lengths behind..

fair enough, but rather than this being pointed out, it was simply locked and moved to the muppet room with nothing more than a blunt comment (at first)

on the whole though, i think the site is run well :)

Fair point fella, would be nice to get some logical feedback as to what approaches would suit in future. If we have outgrown the Muppet Show forum so be it but remember it saves a lot of time PM'ing and coaching individuals.

Just a quick question, what happens if you have more than one car??

If you’re a paid member can you still only have one thread?

Stemming from the old forum I always considered it logical to have one car per thread. Keeps things neat, tidy and easy to follow.

Not to take the attention away from this site or anything, but it's nice to see that people on here can talk about problems in a sensible manner and everyone is entitled to voice their opinion. On our Local cruise site, if anyone steps out of line, threads are locked, posts are deleted and people are given warnings. Hell, we arn't even allowed a suggestion forum because it will 'encourage arguing', and aparantly the admin team have thought about everything but if we do have a suggestion we should Pm an admin so the 'admin team' can discuss it. It's like being in fucking nazi Germany.

But yeah, you should all be appreciative you're allowed to voice your concerns, and have them taken on board, by what I can see, is a very good admin team.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for sharing that with us mate. I seriously don't see how your local site can hope to grow with that kind of attitude.

It's good to know where we are going wrong and how to change things for the better. At the end of the day the forum is the members' forum. Everyone has the right to a say. Okay sometimes things get ignored and forgotten but it's an ongoing process.

It looks as if there are around 400 paid members on this forum or more. So thats around £2400 at least (Not taking into account that traders pay £100 per year?)

So well over £3000

I'm not sure an SQL server, unlimited bandwidth and £80 forum software quite add up to that amount.

But...

The time and effort people have put into this site is clearly visible, it's a growing community unlike most of the others due to the nature of this car.

I think administration of the site is the most important aspect, the mods needs to enforce rules and redulations to filter out the crap. This never happened before, the forum was filling with trash. This will save people like me looking at it and posting a sarcastic response and causing trouble :p I'm not interested in helping people that aren't willing to search, read or help themselves.

Ah yes, out with the calculator. I don't deal with the money side of things and cannot comment, I don't know what running costs are involved.

For the record - The only money I receive is from my own trading forum and I'll take a dim view of anyone saying otherwise.

As for the crap filter, yes - we are on the same wavelength. We need some way of answering the repeated questions and making the technical section more user-friendly. A discussion for another time perhaps.

I think this is wot some people are gettin at so,wot if the mods did say get £100 a year each, would you do it for a 100?im not saying they are but i think thats wot the above comments are getting at

edit, and if ther is any money left over i think it should be split between the mods and admin

Nope. I disagree completely.

I don't see this as a job. It is a pasttime that I enjoy and a site I would like to grow.

When breaking, fixing, modifying and tuning starlets I don't mind earning some beer money.

A few random words typed onto the screen however? They are free to a good home.
