tbh i find all her comments a bit blunt but hey im sure shes sound.. just a few times ive been a bit like hey chill out lol

I concur. Anyway, so say thats £3000 they've made so far via paid subscriptions; how much does hosting cost a month? Surely not more than, at a guess, £40? A lot of hosting deals have an "unlimited" traffic bandwidth allowance, which is what this site would need. Not having a go, just wondering where the money from the membership ends up?

Chris.

edit, and if ther is any money left over i think it should be split between the mods and admin

lol I didn't mean to be harsh, was merely an observation! No offence intended! Being blunt isn't necessarily a bad thing, your concise and to the point - something to boast about if anything! haha :p

And there not really issues; just wonderings! :quadgt:

I'm quite happy to pay the membership fee, I prefer the forum as it is now to what it used to be on the old site. I did see it as kind of strange for DrPSI's thread to be closed however after reading the moderators reasoning behind this the point appears to be clear now.

Why should it concern anyone, as to where the subscribtion money goez.
We have a super site - loadz of info - and plenty of helpful and interesting memberz to boot.
WTF do some people want for the equivelant of 50p per month???????????
Macker suppliez uz with the vehicle for all the above - bless him 4 that.
Az 4 the Admin & Modz - Yes mistakes are made now and again - quite understandable when people are living busy pressurized livez.
Come on folkz - itz easy 2 criticize from the outside - They all have my full support for takin the jobz on.
I wouldn't want to do it - Would you???????????

Unfortunately, i dont have a clue of how you run a forum, so i was wondering what the costs were, i dont mind paying it, but i will say that ive seen no real improvements since the payments were brought in (been here 5years now i think). I really dont like the fact that people cant post up pictures of their cars and stuff because they arent members, and also none of the suggestions posted ever seems to be actioned, I dont know weather this is because it isnt possible to do so but a response now and then from the admin woud be nice!

Chris.

well this post really just says it all. Do you have a clue on what you are talking about? £40 for a dedicated server handling thousands of hits a day... have you any clue??

"they've made" ???

Let me put this to bed once and for all. WE GET NO MONEY FOR RUNNING THIS SITE. The money that comes in from subscriptions goes towards what is needed to keep this site alive.

The suggestion that mods get £100 a year is so totally silly... let me tell you this.. if someone offered me a poxy £100 for the amount of time I spend on this site and the amount of effort I put in I would tell them to fuck off and I am sure the rest of the guys that input on here would do the same.

If you do not think it is value for money you do not have to pay to be a member, it is voluntary subscription.

£40 a year... good jesus christ... some people dont half talk through their arse

For one, I meant £40 per month, sorry for not being clear. And having run numerous websites and one in particular that received 3,000 unique hits a day (not sure what traffic per day TGTT gets, but simply for comparison purposes), I'd say I have some clue about website/bandwidth useage. I'm doing a web services strand for my computer science degree next year, which revolves around database interfaces, PHP and MySQL; so hopefully after doing that I'll have "a clue" about what it takes to manage a website identical to this, sorry for talking "through my arse". I know nothing. Silly me.

I didnt post this to bring into question the costs of running the forum etc, i just didnt think its right that we cant have more than one members thread. But if anyone actually bothered to look, i dont have a members car thread for my own car.... I did on the old site but it got deleted somewhere along the way and ive never bothered to redo it since becoming a paid member. I figured everyone has seen my car enough and i always post photos from shows. So therefore my g/f's thread could have counted as mine?

Also, i do own another GT starlet that is becoming a track car with a 4AGE from a corolla....i think it would be pretty stupid to only allow one project thread per member. Arent we about enjoying cars? Why limit it. To be honest i'd like to see someones cars if they owned more than one. Sure, dont post "here's my mates clio" or whatever, but if its yours or your partners...then whats the big deal? I currently own 4 cars. A mitsubishi, 2 gt starlets and a corolla and i'd love to share them all up here but i just dont get this rule. Its not like its a bullshit thread or spam. Its a paid member sharing his various projects with other members. But noooooooooooo, we are only allowed to show one project. Bit stupid if you ask me. Oh well.

Crap

You've nailed it on the head Johnny.Thats why I don't bother much now offering advice as usually someone with 2 minutes experience knows better.
all i can say is,ever since there was a certain feature in banzai magazine, there has been a lot of knobs attracted to this site who do nothing but give shit advice and talk gibberish about topics they havnt a clue about.

Our site is hosted on a dedicated server with our own rack space and a serious pipe, that does not cost £40 a month.

If you may have read my previous post

Chears Dylan for the kind words,

In Response to Jay Starting a Thread : I was just about to message jay and ask him what the craic was with that thread and then i noticed the member commented on the thread and was a paid member so i left it off. Just figured that Jay was giving him a hand starting his thread. If anyone asked me to do the same i would have no bother in doing so.

In Response to Members with more than 1 car : the rules state that " You are permitted one thread per car. It is your thread on your car so keep it on topic and clean. " so if you are the owner of 3 or 4 cars then you can have 3 or 4 topics one for each car. to be honest i wouldn't differentiate between a G/F, B/F, Friend or Brother/Sister. It would be unfair of me to do so i think. So if a thread says " this belongs to...... " then it gets treated the same no matter if it says Brother, mother, uncle or Friend Etc. after.

I have no problem with people posting up a couple of pictures in the Photo section just as long as it doesn't resemble a car thread. Alot of people complained at the start saying " What are paid members getting " and then some of the original commenters have suddenly turned around and complained even thought their privileges are being protected.

If anyone else want's to disscuss it with me i'll be glad to clear up anything, Add me on MSN ( corbett_frank@hotmail.com ) and we can have a chat.
