Not a bad idea, I think 500 is too high but 50 sounds about right! So they would only be able to post replies in existing threads? So if they have a question about what fuel pressure to run for 1Bar, they will have to either search or reply in an already existing thread about fuelling! I like it! Hopefully it doesn't result in lots of spam where people just post their questions in completely un-related threads!
if that happened Chris their posts would be removed and they would get a warning.
I see it working and having these effects (some of which you just mentioned)
-New members who join the site will feel that being able to open a new thread is actually a privilege so they may be more careful about how they use that when they "earn" it.
-Having to post in existing threads keeps common topics in one thread (or a few threads) not hundreds of threads about "what is stock fuel pressure" etc.
-Despite the myth that the search feature does not work, if used correctly it does actually work. We are on the latest version of Vbulletin now which means the search feature is totally different to how it was and have google indexing also. I do agree picking decent titles etc helps a lot. Perhaps we should look at implementing a rule on thread titles in the tech and for sale sections?
-Total prevention of new members signing up to talk about their "kills"
-Forces new members to look at the structure of threads and gets them using all parts of the forum. When it comes time that they can open their own threads they will know there is a specific place for the thread and a way to ask questions.
-Makes a clear distinction between new members and established members. This i needed in my opinion. It will give new members, particularly younger members, a sense that they have to behave to be allowed post freely like our established members.
