im a newbie and have asked some (what you would call stupid questions) cause i do not understand and even when i read up i find it very confusing  i thought the idea of the site was to ask for help whether the questions is simple to answer or one for the masterminds on here.

i care alot for my car and if im confused i ask people that know about them and always have a good response back to my answer and alot of help.

just because you know about these cars dont mean everyone does and while im trying to learn i do need help along the way so i think that rant is a little nasty dont you cause everyone has to start somewhere not all of us a mechanically minded!

i gotta say that post of yours kinda hurt like and im glad i joined and meet the helpful people on here before reading it otherwise i would have thought f**K this they seem like a right bunch of tossers and never would have joined or posted.

That's an interesting point - I've experienced a few forums in the past where newbies are particularly ignored. The last thing we ever want is someone afraid to ask a question.

No point being elitist about the whole thing.

The site and it's members helped me so much in the early years of ownership. Even now I'm learning new stuff everyday and feel happy to repay that with whatever guidance I can offer.

You get what you give.

as a few people have said, the type of owner has changed from what it was 3-4 years ago, as starlets were worth alot more then, compared to what they are now, this has made it more accessable than it once was - so alot more people are going to buy them, and it will be the younger generation going onto their 2nd car who want to buy it to go race their mates corsa or saxo etc, that was always going to happen.

I know this for a fact due to what ive personally witnessed and what a friend told me last night - but thats life, theyll end up wrapping it round a tree and wont get another one...but on other hand are insurance premiums will increase, but im going off topic too much,
but it sort of falls in line to the wheels etc, as more people are getting them, not everyone was to follow the rest of the sheep and want to stand out, end of the day its their car - if they like it, then so be it, ive got orange wheels, however the reason i didn mine orange was to stand out on track, so people know its me...it worked, but there not to my own personal taste for day to day driving.

Ive only had my car since august, so compare to alot of people on here, im a newbie still, and i may not have asked a lot of stupid questions on here, but my god i have asked some stupid questions to my friends that i have met through here, kelly, ben nick, mike, broomy, matt etc etc, so alot of people cant do this so they tend to post up quesdtions, and if there new, they might not know that the question was asked 3 days ago.
It would be good to get a new FAQs sction up with more relevant questions in there, and i know toby has created a thread how to get a well balanced 200bhp, i dont think thats hardly used.

As for the hondas thing, yes i think everyone loves a bit of banter, but it seems of late its going a bit too far (i know ive joined in banter) but all you can do is either ignore it, or just keep an eye on things -if its getting out of hand, there is a report post button that i use - and i think it gets monitored now more than what it used too.

But on the plus side, i love this site to bits, its the best forum ive ever joined, ive made some friends on here, that i feel i will be friends for life with, the amount of information thats been asked on here is phonemoninal, and the traders are great too, but it wouldnt happen without mods/admin - so thank you!! Yes things are changing, but if we all stick together, then it wont matter - we will all still be a great big family

Indeed i totally agree we are all newbies at some point so your expected to have limited to no knowledge at all about these cars, I came on this site barely knowing anything, didn't understand how a turbo made boost, or why the hell i'd need an FCD + rrfrp etc but many hours of reading threads and asking a bunch of questions and im a whole lot wiser, though its true at some points you read something that contradicts something someone else has said (usually a newbie that don't have too much of a clue) which also confuses members and defeats the point of help! even though i've moved on from the starlet, I'd like to remain an active member, always reading the threads which provide helpful no matter what make or model of car you own. Since this site's a very active one i know i can post up questions about a different car and usually get flooded with useful and helpful info and for that reason... this is my home and i don't intend to leave! - it wont be my last starlet either.

Sorry if theres any poor grammar I'm very tired!

Rich.

I have to agree that it is annoyin seeing the same stuff posted day in day out, another big one is "filter relocation pipe sizes?"

When people create threads they have the responsibility to name them using common sense, no point in naming the thread "will this work?" (for example) and then goin on talkin about FCD's or something else. This may be an issue when people do try and use the search button as no-one will be searching the words "will this work?"

Wouldnt go as far as sayin im sick of tgtt tho :( i love you guys! lol

SOOOOO true! I think we all need to heed this advice.... makes the search much less effective without proper titles!!!:shoot:

i think the problem is due to the growing popularity of the starlets.
i think ive been in here as long if not a bit linger than you and i can see exactly what you mean.

back in the day 90% of starlet owners were true enthusiasts. the cars were expensive to buy, hard to find and parts were relatively scarce.

now every chav and his mate can get hold of one. its a shame in some respects, but makes running ours a bit cheaper ;)

i dont think there is anything that can be done tbh :(

I could not agree more with this statement.

With regards to the Photoshop Requests, due to the popular 2009 Trend of bright wheels and people’s lack of PS capabilities (through no fault of there own) i think these threads are perfectly fine on the forum as were all here to help each other in the field’s were good at,
But i do think that all the PS requests should have there own part of the forum to keep the rest of the forum nice and tidy etc :)

Honda Vs Toyota.. You think it’s annoying on here….
Try going out with a pure Honda lover.. Think it's our biggest hot topic! he go's on about how crap my Glanza V is and i go on about how much better my car is to his poxy Civic, its just on one them things guys….
Just like Scooby Vs Evo – Ford Vs Jap so on an so on
GET OVER IT and Get on with it lol lol lol

Unfortunately because of the recent popularity of the GT's and Glanza's SPESH IN MY AREA (due to my disgust)
There will always be new people posting up about how much power they have or want or what ever..
Its just how things are and not every one takes there car related issues etc as seriously as other people...
Now every one is allowed there 1p but i dont think it's fair to rant and rave about it…..
It’s a public forum on the WORLD WIDE WEB. The only way to keep the sight clean of useless posts and un helpful info etc is to have is closed an not have any new members, but that’s ONLY if you tar each member with the same brush……
Come on you guys were all here for the same reason and that’s because he Love our GT’s and Glanza’s as much as the next person…
Lets all hold hands and hug now

Chin up… it could be worse ay…… :)

That’s my bit said...... BOSH

I dont think it is all so new Dan, we had people coming on talking about racing saxos and 106's etc etc 4 or 5 years ago. With the explosion in members recently sure we have more new faces asking questions but I dont think any of the questions or comments are new.

Personally I feel more long term members should be shown a bit more respect by people who have just joined the site, this does not always happen. Recently we have had to adjust the registration process because of kids joining and constantly spouting rubbish and giving incorrect advice.

The trouble is though that as soon as we begin to moderate there is a feeling on the site that the place is too moderated and so it is difficult to find a balance.

I recently joined a forum (not car related) and they have posting rules where you cannot start a new thread until you have 500 posts. Personally I think this would stop a load of the constant questions that come from new members and force them to search. We could possibly have a "newbie" forum with FAQ's and new members might have the ability to open new threads in there but not elsewhere on the site. Even if we dropped this to 50 posts I think it would have a great impact.
The forum I joined that has this rule seems to be very good. New members can search, view, and chat in existing threads allowing them to participate and see how the site works etc but they cannot flood the forum with rubbish new threads. If they post off topic in threads their posts are immediately removed.

Let me know what you guys think about this as I think it could work well here. As it stands now as soon as you register you are live on the forum and can start opening threads all over the place asking the same question.

it makes sense... the fuckup would be that we can find people posting in any thread(since he cannot start one) asking his questions and spamming / going off topic on other threads :S but either way we are going to have something wrong.. at least we can try it... see in 1 month how it goes :) 50 posts sounds right..

I think a FAQ would hit the mark, the search can give too much information and much of it contains contradictions, leading to information overload and in some cases incorrect information.

What I think is needed is a couple of moderated concise FAQs created by member for members, it'll take all the pain out of it. ok who's first ...

What is a FCD ?

Not a bad idea, I think 500 is too high but 50 sounds about right! So they would only be able to post replies in existing threads? So if they have a question about what fuel pressure to run for 1Bar, they will have to either search or reply in an already existing thread about fuelling! I like it! Hopefully it doesn't result in lots of spam where people just post their questions in completely un-related threads!

The downfall is if a newbie has an issue that hasn't been seen or experienced before. Or wants a part number that hasn't been posted before. Or has done a tutorial that they want to post. Etc Etc Etc.

Just highlighting a few senarios by the way, I feel a restriction might be worth a trial period.
