Ireland only has 60 days left of cash left

Social welfare has ALWAYS been a problem in this country but its not 'THE' problem. The problem in this country is that we have people in power doing jobs they are not qualified to do and too many of them doing it, from the top down. A public sector job is a guaranteed job for life you CANNOT compare it to the private sector. My simple understanding of how things work is that when you wanted a job you had one of two choices, you took a risk to make big money and went into the private sector and if you lost your job then that was just though shit. Or you took the safe option, chose the public sector and were guaranteed job and pension but sacrificed the possibility of making really good wages.

This government however decided to bring in a thing called 'Bench marking' which basically awarded a group of people all of the positives of having a private sector job to add to all of the benefits they already had in their of the public sector jobs but NONE of the negatives. This is absolutely LUDACRIS. How does anyone think it is ok to pay a manager in the public sector the same wage as a manager in the private sector when if the private sector manger screws up they get sacked but the public sector manager doesn't!!!!

I'll put it this way, im a qualified electrician, if I was working for a contractor and he sent me out to wire a house and i did a shite job I would get fired but if an electrician working for a local council did the same thing he wouldn't be. The council electrician would ALSO be getting a GUARANTEED pension so WHY ON EARTH would he get the same pay as me? I'll tell you why, Irish politics. They made up jobs their buddies when there was no jobs for them and paid them stupid money to do it and they can't get rid of them now even if they wanted to (which they don't because its all their buddies in these jobs).

Its the people that really NEED the dole that are going to be hit the worst. These are the people that are the easiest targets. They very often don't know what they are entitled to and don't bother looking for it either because they feel bad enough even taking the basic dole, its demoralising to say the least. Its the people that make a career out of doing nothing that won't be touched because 'they know their rights' so they will fight and continue to get everything.

I know this sounds bad but what this country REALLY needs is a dictator to come in and just DO what needs to be done and not just go on and on and on telling us what needs to be done and about how bad things are and actually do nothing. A person can live VERY comfortably on €50k plus a year so I say tax the balls out of everyone making more than that and have a maximum wage of €100k a year for at least the next 5 years. Means test EVERYONE and if you can afford it, then pay for it yourself you cheap bastard and if you cant then just give it to them, dont make them apply for it. If your unemployed for more than 6 months then you should have to enter the education system like back to school to get a good Leaving Cert or college (not a stupid shitty FAS course) or if you don't want to do that then you should be doing voluntary work. There should be NO SUCH THING as FREE money.

Also, college fee's are a joke too. How do they expect people to pay those kinds of fee's to go to college? And don't say "well the pay $40k a year in america to go to college" this isn't America and in America you get a student loan that doesn't have to be paid till AFTER you FINISH college and actually have the means to pay it. How is a bloody student with no job (because there aren't any out there) going to pay huge registration fees if there grant is cut and the cant get a part time job. This country's ONLY resource thats worth talking about is its workforce. We have VERY little natural resources, we have almost no industry left (which this government let quietly disappear during the good times) and we're a tiny island state on the periphery of Europe with a shit climate. We may not think it but as a group we are a highly educated, skilled workforce and that needs to continue into the future and the only way for that to happen is to provide the means for EVERYONE to get as much education as they need. They do it in Sweden so just because other countries dont do it doesn't mean that WE shouldn't

@ William those are some very valid comments as always, it boils me that the people of Ireland cant get together as a group and take the country back from these fat cats that are feeding off the hard working people of this land we need more protests and demonstrations and we need them now

Im sure Gilmore will do the very best that he can but my biggest fear is that, with the enormity of the situation, it will take a long time to fix and everyone will get on their backs and say "Sure they're as useless as the last shower" and then fianna fail will get back into power and when things start to pick up will take all the credit for fixing the problem.

In one way I am glad Fianna Fail got into power in the last election because they would have blamed this whole mess on the new government if they had failed to get into government. Ireland economy was the envy of the world and I know it was all based on the property bubble but they could have done so much so differently. They don't care because the recession doesn't affect them. The Taoiseach is making €228k a year PLUS almost €120k euro in expenses and thats AFTER the 20% cut he took. In 2007 the Taoiseach was the highest paid leader of any country in the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). The British Prime Minister makes 140k stg which is €165k and the French Prime Minister makes €231k, thats a F""KING JOKE

Taken from RTE News. Cowen is assuring the country that there have been NO discussions with IMF.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen has told the Dáil there is no question of the Government being involved in discussions on a bailout from the EU or IMF.

Taken from IMF website:
http://www.imf.org/external/np/sec/pr/2010/pr10441.htm

At the request of the Irish authorities
:homer:

IMF are coming here tomorrow so It looks like we are going to be bailed out.

Oh yeah, I heard on the radio that if the IMF do bail us out then that does come with alot of consequences. One of them would the reduction of social welfare from 196 euro to about 30-40 euro per week.

there are a couple of points worth noting here.

1 - Our governing party is still saying they have not discussed a bailout with the EU or the IMF. Every legitimate news source on the planet is reporting otherwise. Fianna Fail are still lying to the people of Ireland.

2 - If you think things are bad now wait until they come to inspect our public finances and the banks. The sad truth will be revealed and as I keep saying "take whatever Fianna Fail have said and multiply it by 1000" and thats how bad the level of shit we are in is.

3 - Fianna Fail are toast, its over, they are dead in the water. The only thing they are trying to do now is not be known as the party that completely destroyed the country and forced the IMF to come in and bail us out. They are resisting this at all costs not for the good of Ireland but for the reputation of their party.

4 - Europe is sick of the way Ireland is being mismanaged. Maybe it is not such a bad thing that they are coming in and exposing the illness and corruption in Ireland. The Irish people are obviously not interested enough to do anything about their government so maybe we have to rely on Europe to come and clean house for us.

Now the reality is that Ireland is screwed, financially. The complete incompetence of our government is having a knock-on effect across European markets and is starting to put other countries at risk and is making the euro become unstable. Like it or not we are the biggest issue in Europe right now. All of our neighbors are saying they will help us out. If this happens they will inflict hurt upon us by forcing austerity measures. This is stuff our current government should have done years ago. The public sector should have been slashed years ago.... the government should not be getting paid what they are getting paid.... social welfare should not be so generous to long term sponges.

You can say, we will lose control of our finances but really have we actually had control of them at all? Fianna Fail have totally mismanaged our wealth and everyone says there is no effective opposition party to take over... so why not let Europe play a hand in sorting out our finances - could they do a worse job?

I keep saying this, people have no idea how bad things really are, they are about to find out.

Oh and to those of you who voted Fianna Fail, thanks a bunch - I blame you for destroying my country. I dont care if that is the way your parents and grandparents always voted - I blame them too. Be more careful who you vote for next time. You voted a party in to power who have dismantled our country and completely destroyed it and the sad truth is some of those Fianna Fail voters will vote for them again, it is sickening.

doesn't matter, people just won't accept that! there really will be riots!

there should have been riots a couple of years ago and it wouldnt have come to this. There should have been riots when the Irish people were forced to vote on the lisbon treaty for the second time which totally went against the will of the people but no one rioted... no one ever does. And by the time they do it is too late because the damage is done.

The people who died for this country to be free are being dishonored every minute of every day as we allow it to fall apart.
