I think he should follow his heart.
He is going to lose money either way, longer he leave it the more he will lose depending on time.
Lack of performance with higher running costs really is a hard one to swallow, even thou it is not all about speed. I'm sure the Civic is a better car 'all round' compared to a Starlet. Interior, build etc etc.
But if you just can't bond with a car and you find it boring then sometimes you just have to do what feels right.
