After years of fighting with stubborn filters I finally got the Toyota Filter tool.Guess what I havn't had a stubborn filter since and havn't got the chance to use the tool.
dont blame ya. Its a nightmare to remove. i didnt have a tool, just some big pliers. I got fed up and jammed a screw driver through it and forced it open, abit messy.
Recommned you change the oil as the filter is dirty and would contaminate the new oil.
Arrrgh balls is that true? The old filter will contaminate the new oil???
The oil that is already in the filter is dirty, so it will mix with new oil, so the oil change would be a waste
Surely the small amount left in the filter won't contaminate it all? Doesn't the filter just sieve out any dirt etc that may be in the oil???
i doubt the tiny amount of dirty oil in the filter would make any difference. i would also guess the filter is more than capable of being effective beyond the 3k mile oil changes most people do on here
True. According to the guidelines Toyota recommended an oil change every 5,000 kms and filter change every 10,000 kms.
Given that the same filters are used on non-turbos for 10,000 mile intervals in the UK then I would gather they have more life than 5,000 kms in them but Toyota wanted to play safe as oil quality is a key part of the 4EFTE.
Guess it really depends on how much crap and debris the system has to offer.
