Without cam's, headwork etc?

Nick,

What are your thoughts on the TD04L at max efficency vs K24 at max efficency? I never got a ride in Ben's K24 so never managed to experience that turbo :(

Last time we spoke, you said you were not going to boost the TD04L to 1.4bar due to your theory about the standard headbolts lifting.

What changed?
Hey Gee

Thanks for the questions buddy, well 1.4bar on the TD04 against the K24 at max efficency, The K24 hits full boost alot faster, and the midrange torque is stronger from the K24 imo but top end power it looses out, i never got up against ben at 1.4bar but both turbos are fantastic in there own way, the TD04 would pull past the K24 at the topend but low down you would struggle to touch the K24.

Depending on what you want the car for then you can choose the turbo, drag racing probably the TD04 for all out BHP but trackwork i would say the K24 has the edge.

Thats just my opinion on both turbo's.

As for speaking to me about the stock headbolts, well the engine felt extremely strong and haven't had any issues so decided to test how far they could go, been upto 1.4bar so far but we will be pushing it further possbily, with the intake temps i was getting i believe the TD04 can go past 1.4bar and still create extra power worth the extra boost.

Cool man.

Again, seems like the TD04L is a very good compromise :)

The K24 sounds like a really great turbo, such a shame I never have experienced once. Sticking to what I have now, but dam the K24 sounds very appealing.

Can you disclose what inlet temperatures you were getting? Would be nice to compare, think I'm going to get my A/F, inlet temps etc from Matt (mine was done at racing line too), as I forget the print off's for the 1.4bar tune.

Will be interesting to see where you think the map could be improved?

In regards to the inlet temps, does this even matter if the turbo is being pushed beyond it's CFM?

Here is my last print out:

Your torque seems to come in a little earlier, but mine peaks sooner, same with the max HP. Guess this will vary day to day and rolling road anyway.

You could say ours are more or less identical.

Cheers.

Silversurfer on here ran 1.6-1.7 bar on a td04l for ages on his matt black car with no issues regarding headbolts, the engine is still fine now :)

I would just mirror what Nick said as both turbos are great in different ways. Obviously i'm biast but i just loved the low down power of that k24!

Least you got go in it Nick and the memories can live on :p

Yeah think he was running 1.4-1.5bar wasnt he Lewis? That what he made ~ 275bhp with :)

Nice result nick. Is that with a normal actuator, or on an external wastegate? What do you think is causing the boost tail off?

Its on a normal Actuator setup and we believe we have cured the boost problem now and it will be returning to the dyno very soon to see how we get on :)

Nick getting mine mapped on Wednesday now fella so I will put up the results on my members car thread. Im trying to organise an RR day at the moment for Feb 09 now @ www.hayesdynotech.co.uk rather than at the one I put on my post. Either solely a Toyota day or I have a friend who is heavily into his Honda forums so might get a Toyota vs Honda 20 cars from each for a bit of fun and see if one of the Mags will come out and do a feature.

News to follow shortly

It would be good if you could make it. :):)

Sorry to spam your post lol

hey guys,
I think the answer to your irish v's english dyno results is our crap fuel!We only get 95 octane bog petrol, with the exception of maxol for some lucky people of course!

Is that true? 95 only?? And Í thaught that here in Finland is all kind of shit what we are using 98E. Japanese gets 100 fuel in local stations..

Well here is Shell V-power these days and it is 99+ octane. Keeps the engine cleaner too :)

Ron95 must have problems and can´t get total feel out the engines power recources.. Octane booster is a option but makes more work if drive daily etc.. Here the dyno tuner said me once that if your car has not at least Ron98 he won´t drive it (I drive usually 98)..
