There seems to be only one mate, TRD did do a 0.6mm gasket for the 4/5E engines but.

A few engines here have been built with 10cc dished pistons and a 0.6mm gasket, with the right mapping then it should be ok without a massive turbo.

it wouls also be ok with a big turbo,

10cc dish and the stock 1.2mm headgasket gives compression ratios close to 7.5:1 maybe a tad less maybe a tad more, and to be frank thats far to low unless you planning on running over 2 bar boost.

Fellas are running unnecessarily low compression ratios, standard compression(4efte) is fine, at least on 97ron fuel or better.

i take it youve never seen a broken main-cap right?

Not personally which is good considering the torque levels involved.

Only ones I heard of breaking was a car running nitrous with relativly low power/torque and put it down to the lean hit the engine was recieving before the fuel got through the nitrous kit lines, mega det.

There was a fella on here running a ratio of 6.5!!!! far far too low.

yeah 6.5 is waaay to low... locally (on well tuned engines not botched jobs).. with 4e owners running cr's close to stock or over stock and running more than 28psi of boost.. the main caps have called it a day ... sometimes the case is that all 5 crack.. this was not due to detonation.. its just a case of the oem maincaps just being able to take a certain amount of stress and thats it lol..

the lowest cr i would ever suggest on a 4e to run 30psi + plus boost without having many problems is a cr of about 7.2 ~ 7.4 cr :)

main caps dont just break, they have no force pushing the main caps, the only thing that would cause the main caps to break is the crank whipping due to poor balancing or pre ignition that forces the crank in the wrong direction.

Just on the off chance.

I've to sort my headgasket on my daily auto GT shortly and have one of these really thin metal OEM 5E gaskets spare. Anyone using one on a stock 4EFTE?

Turbo is Hybrid Tong running .9bar at the minute. It would save me splashing out on a stock 4EFTE version and should offer a better response than the stock item I'm guessing..

Cheers,

should be fine jay.

just make sure the pistons dont hit the head, and the valves dont hit the pistons.

on forged pistons its ok because the valve pockets are a lot larger

Aye, that was my big worry - already had to deal with a bent valve this year elsewhere lol.

May as well give it a shot then!

Cheers for the input mate.

stick the head on without the gasket, and rotate the valves with the pistons in tdc, just to make sure.

you should ideally need a 1mm gap between valve and piston (with the gasket on)

i reckon it will be fine

I've to MOT prep my trackcar, get it road legal and then once I have that up and rolling I can take the auto off the road. Will update this thread once I've had a bit of feedback to share. Don't know if it's a good sign but Phil was here yesterday and he was thinking good thoughts about it as an option.

i bet you were certain it was a bad sign lol

i found my way back to this thread via a google search for a forementioned part number. nuff said.

this gasket seems quite cheap and sounds ideal for my forged 5e build.
there were some torque specs for installing the gasket but i'm not 100% sure i'm getting it :)

Anzugsverfahren:
2.5Kpm, 5Kpm, -90º+5Kpm, 90º
Nachziehen: Nein

1 kpm = 0.98nm so that's easy
so turque it down with 2.5nm (that's really low...)
then go for 5nm
after that turn it 90 degrees to loosen it up again.
then go to 5nm and 90 degrees to tighten it down?
