well i think most people know the people who really know their stuff, and if your online alot you can tell who to believe or trust. rep is useful, aslong as people dont get strung up on having it! its like a big post count, maybe means your online lots rather than useful.

I think it's working OK.

The thing is, if you want reputation points you need to get involved in some of the larger topics and make sure that a valid explanation or technical understanding is there, or even just an alternative view to those whom have already posted.

You should be expected to resolve small threads and questions without receiving reputation (or much reputation assuming basic threads are created by newer members).

I've only recieved rep from about 5 or 6 threads.

As with everything, its subject to abuse :(

I rep when someone helps me, because its a good indicator of the validity of a user. But its not the be all and end all :)

I would agree with that also.

Dylan and I run random checks on feedback comments to keep an eye on how the system is working. I've picked up a few issues regarding negative feedback but haven't found any undue rep being added so far. I'm sure he will add his findings when he gets a chance.

It is a new feature and there will always be teething problems. We've been keeping an eye on it as the system is of huge value to newbies not knowing who to put faith in.

I'd like to thank everyone who has utilised the rep system for their input and help so far. From what I can see it is worth perservering with.

like everyone said i think its working okay,

i think the problem occurs when people are right in the middle of something and need urgent help and just forget to add rep, either that or theyre still getting used to the system or are brand new to the forum.

One such occasion was that i spent a lot of time and effort to help this member out with a brake issue and didnt even get a thanks, only reason i got some rep because a mod saw it and decided that it was worth repping me for it. I dont mind in the slightest as i knew that if someone searched the thread would be there with all the info they could need and i dont give out advice for anything in return but its nice to know that someone appriciates your help.

also like people have said, good advice is good advice no matter what rep level your at, if someone is gonna base there descision solely on the amount of rep someone has then they will miss out on quite a lot, but its a good system for people who dont neccersarily know the forum that well. They will be able to take advice knowing that the person giving it has been helpfull to others in the past.

To be fair though I don’t think the rep system is really relevant there are a lot of people on here who give out extremely good advice a lot of this advice is from “not so active members”

I have issued rep points to ppl not based on a thread they have commented in but one advice they have given me through a p, ect so the topic I am reping is completely irrelevant....

I agree with the above. The Rep system is pretty pointless imo. Also it wouldnt bother me if I got rep or not. I dont help people out because I get rep, I would help some one because I can help someone.
Its a bit like being a post whore and just wanting to have the highest count. Personally I wouldnt bother with it and just because someone has a high reputation score does not mean there advice is correct. Its just another way on a forum of saying "I am better than you"

Is there anywhere on the site which explains how to use the rep??

the thing is people will listen to people more with high rep than they will with low rep.

Not if people don't even understand what the rep is for Ricky. TBH I think the rep systems can be used as a "look how big my cock is, I've got so much rep!". People seem to get really upset if they don't get repped and end almost every post with "rep please". This is a great forum and theres some really good people on here but the rep thing seems to have given this place an almost competative edge, there's no need for it. If you have helped me out in whatever way and I feel that rep is the least I could do then rest asured I will give you rep. Please don't remind me in everything reply to a thread!

I'm surprised no one has changed their sig to "don't forget to give me rep!" yet! :p

I agree with Hutch on this one if ppl don’t know how to use the system how can it work...

Also it’s a bit lazy. You can’t just look at the reps and assume they know what there talking about as you cant see why someone has been given them..

I think I am a good example I have been given rep points which is very nice but I am the first person to say I don’t really know shit about these cars.. My knowledge and understanding is what I have learned through moding and fixing my own car and based on the help and advice I have been given from other people. I think this is true for quiet a few people on here.

From my point of view I don’t care how many reps a person has I for one take the time to either read what the person as said before or by asking them a direct question.

A good point but one I feel I can dismiss by looking at the running rep totals. Dave and I are rather high up the pecking order so obviously by your own words we are the biggest dicks on here (cue spontaneous agreement and sniggering:p)

I can only speak for myself but I have never asked/reminded/begged/pleaded for rep points in any of my posts. From what I can see of Dave's all rep has been given properly too.

Surely if someone was screwing the system we would see this and stop it but as it stands I don't see anything to be worried about.

Dylan and I run regular checks to catch any abuse of the system out but naturally some things can get past us. If anyone feels the rep they are being given is unfair please give Dy or myself a shout to resolve it.

For example I had to remove a comment along the lines of 'suck my dick' from one guys rep just because someone was being an arsehole.

It's just a case of monitoring the rep and ensuring it all runs as it should. We are trying to do this best we can.

Ah Jay I think you misunderstood me, I didn't mean are the biggest dicks, I mean't have the biggest dicks. Which I can neither confirm nor deny to be true! :p

@hutch - the people with the high rep counts are the people that have been on here for a long time and know what they are on about and have always given sound advice.

i have reminded people to give me rep when the system was first introduced, but puerly because i had genuinley helped these people out and wanted the system to start working. i no longer ask for rep in fact i never after a couple of weeks, reason being is that most people now just rep any way.

lol, not sure if I'm diplomatic enough to be a mod! I'd just end up getting pissed 1 night and going on a random banning spree!

At least he is honest :p

I think it's only fair to ask for Rep when you have spent time and effort giving a detailed response. A one word answer shouldn't really count but if someone like myself has written out an essay (which I do most days) then it's only fair to ask if nothing was given time is money at the end of the day. Surely we I should start with a 1000?

Rep please :p
