Thanks for all the kind words guys, I really appreciate your thoughts right now. Just realising the gravity of whats happened. Makes me feel a bit sick to look for other cars on autotrader...had a connection with that little car man. Longest time i've owned a car 4.5 years...never let me down ever, but now I let it down. :( What great repayment for all those happy memories and years of faithful service. Damn.

Thanks for the sympathy guys...Yep I sure do love that car...if ever i felt down or something, one thing was guaranteed....on a cool evening I could jump into that car, turn the key, head out onto the quiet roads and I would have the biggest smile on my face no matter what was going on in my personal life.

Yeah I know mate, the feeling is just awful...I feel like such a traitor looking at other cars, but I need transport soon really. Still in disbelief. Car will be delivered tomorrow, they couldn't make it today, I'll get some pictures up if possible.

DriveR really sorry about what happened to you, especially when you have owned and loved your starlet so much but look at it this way, like you said the starlet took the impact good and probably saved your life so thats his/her way of saving thanx for the years of ownership :D

Glad your safe, just be thankful that all is well.

Kelly, that was so beautifully put, and thank you...that is actually the way I see it...if you saw the pictures of the interior you would too....the roof folded to just in front of my face...yeah my head it the roof, but it was at the thickest part of the skull, miraculously... there wasn;t even a lump on my head despite my jaw snapping shut, and head rocking forward etc....i was damn lucky....so annoyed with this ridiculous cost-cutting approach of the car park.

Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and best wishes.

This website has served me well over the years, I've met some spectacular friends and fellow enthusiasts, and learned more than I ever thought I would about one particular type of car. The starlet bunch are a good bunch of people, brought together by some great little cars, of which their bite is definitely worse then their bark:D

Long live all starlets, and their owners.

Drive safe,

Rob

Thats stupid.. ive seen them put those bars that come up outa the ground but a bar head chopping hight? isent that just illigal? Were there any signs?.. me being mr calm most of the time, proberbly would have snapped and screamed at the people that look after the carpark..

How did they get your car out? Name and shame the carpark.. was it in sommerset?

Thanks a lot for your support guys, yeah I certainly think they should of had some more signs up...apparently there is one sign up on the way in to the car park...but personally I'm too busy watching for pedestrians walking out in front of my car which they have a habit of doing since the pedestrian walkway is situated right at the top of the entrance ramp....great design, real pro-human life.......

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To Be Continued.................

No worries DriveR :)
what i dont understand is why your allowed to go in the car park if you cant get out? Or down the ramp even?

Were there any signs?

I guess for most people a bright yellow bar right in front of them might do the trick? Too many people in this country try to palm the blame off for their own stupid mistakes, and no offence Rob, but this was a stupid mistake. I won't be able to walk up stairs without a sign before every step soon! Maybe braile signs for the "blind" drivers though, or maybe a massive "here be a bright yellow bar in front of you" siren.

Jesus Sam, go easy on him! no need to be a fucktard.

Well, I don't know what a "fucktard" is, I can only assume you put 2 syllables from 2 separate insults together and hoped for the best.

Now I fully symapthise with Robs position and the financial situation that he's found himself in, however on Rob's own admission he was "on autopilot", in other words not paying attention, so who is to say he would even have seen or taken notice of any signs that may have been there. In fact, my grievance wasn't even with Rob, as I'm fairly sure I read that he accepts the full blame, I was relying to someone else that suggested that there should be a sign for something that is right in your face and commenting that this country is full of people always trying to palm the blame on to someone else for their actions, whether it be for financial benefit or shedding embarrassment.

Sam, obviously I accept the full blame for the incident. I use that car park everyday, and it is just routine for me to exit it down the ramp as normal....However, I never knew they locked a bar across the entrance/exit...this was weird since i'd only driven into the car park minutes before...I have no excuse for not seeing the bar, didn't have radio, phone or anything in the car to distract me, i was looking in front but obviously the bar just didn't register with me for some reason.

I'm not trying to palm off the blame as you insinuated, I have a genuine grievance with the car park people as it is common knowledge you prevent access to a ramp in a multi-storey car park environment, not just stick one cheap bit of metal across the entrance/exit gap and hope someone read some shitly placed sign whilst there watching for pedestrians at the top.

Like i said, i'm the first to hold my hands up, i feel a right bloody idiot, i can't understand why i did not see the bar, it just blended in to my field of vision for some reason, i just did not expect it at all to be there. But i have to question, why there was not a bar at the beginning of the ramp, to stop me from entering it. And I'm not trying to shed embarrasment, I'll take the embarrassment like a man, it was an honest mistake, so bleat on all you want, I really couldn't give a shit....but to be honest, with that kind of attitude, you're really tempting providence yourself.

Obviously a sign would do you no good, you missed this quote "In fact, my grievance wasn't even with Rob". Need I say more?

No, I actually did not miss that at all FYI. I've up till now ignored your previous comments where you've been ever so eager to point out the obvious, so I thought I'd let you know my thoughts.
